#2897 of 3457 Bow-Tie Bushing Vibration
Oct 13, 2005 (11:14 am)
My mother's 1999 Dodge Intrepid is experiencing some vibraton at low speeds. Once you get over 20 mph or so the vibration goes away.
According to the local tire dealer, the bowtie bushing is wearing out. It costs only $22 for the part, but the labor brings the bill up to $220. This is a fairly recent occurrence. Any chance she can go for a while without making the repairs?
Thanks for any input!

We haven't had any rain, so our problem is not the windshield. Its going in tomorrow to a different shop. They think they have figured out what it is. I will keep you posted.

i have a 2001 intrepid and have water inside the trunk. It's coming from a poorly designed vent that is located behind the carpet on the drivers side right behind the tail light. The only way to stop the leak is to remove the vent and place plastic over it and seal it with duct tape.

but all four seals around the door openings shrunk up on my 2000 Intrepid. I bought a new one for one of the back doors, which had shrunk up really bad. When I saw how it all went together though, I just re-adjusted the other three seals so that they fit properly again, although I did end up with a gap under the plastic sill plate. None of those seals ever leaked water, but the wind noise was terrible.

2001 Dodge Intrepid has water leaking onto the floor of driverís side of car. The car was taken to the Luther Brookdale Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge dealership. They said a gromet around the shift cable was out of position causing water to leak. They said they repositioned the shift cable gromet. Water is still leaking onto the floor of driverís side of car. The car was taken back to the Luther Brookdale Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge dealership. They said that they were unable to locate the water leaking problem. They said to take the car to an auto body shop.

I have never heard of a bow tie bushing and I have done a bunch of front end work on different vehicles. Rebuilt the entire front end of a 4x4 Suburban last summer. It sounds like a Chevy part I have a 1999 Intrepid and would like to know about this. Can you find out where it is and what it does.

I don't think that 210K miles and 11 years is by any means out of the question. Maybe I'm unrealistic, but I expect mine to do that with ease. Actually, at the current rate, it won't have 210K on it at 11 years. Now at nearly 7 years and only 103K.
My neighbor just traded in his 99 3.2 ES with fewer than 50K miles on it because it was not good to tow behind his new motor home. He bought himself a new Malibu Maxx--v6 because it is so easy to hook up for the towing. I didn't ask him what the problem was with the Intrepid, maybe because the front end is so low.
His Intrepid was just like mine, except dark gray leather interior rather than tan. If I were looking for a used car, I would go take a look at that one. In the same amount of time, I put 103K miles on mine.
Enjoy the ride!

I have a 99 ES, no leather, 6years 2 months and 66K miles. The only thing that I do not like about this car is that it really does not like to downshift, for example, going up a hill. Is this a characteristic other owners observe and is it the same for 2.7 L cars. I have a 95 Suburban which downshift beautifully and my wife has a 2005 Pacifica with the 3.5 L which also downshifts dramatically better than my Intrepid. I am guessing that the Intrepids were set up this way for improved mileage. I have the autostick which is what I use on some particularly egreagous hills, but I should not have to. Any comments?

in, end of lease, this past January, almost 11 months ago, and I have been lurking and posting since then, I believ it is time to bid you good people adieu, as I doubt I have much to offer anymore...the car is discontinued, but I hope all of yours last at least 200K with no repairs except oil changes and tires... ...
If anybody truly misses me, I can be found on numerous topics, like auto insurance, uninsured motorists insurance, Ford Crown Vic, Dodge Ram 1500, and others...
Thanks for the comraderie, and I wish you the best...
As John McLaughlin would say..."Bye-Bye!!!"...
