My new Acura... by sapper3273

I just purchased an 1990 Acura Legend LS sedan for 3k. The vehicle is in excellent condition and runs strong. I am wondering after reading things here if someone can give me an idea what I should be looking at in order to keep up with preventative maintenance so that I do not have any unnecessary problems "down the road" so to speak.
Also I dont have a manual for the radio and I am trying to learn as much about the operation of it to get the most use out of the radio. Anyone know where I can get a copy of a manual online?

Engine shutdown, by bushmaster

Hello all I really hope you guys can help me. I bought a 92 Ac Legend sedan with 168K miles. everything was working fine but the alarm was acting up on me. I asked a friend to cut the wire near the hood latch to disable it and he did. The car still worked with no problems. Then one day I'm driving and the engine shutdown; mind you that everthing else in the car still worked but the engine would not start again. I asked a couple of people they said it might be the fuel pump but I checked it and its good. The only thing I can think of is the alarm system shutdown the engine.

If anyone has any ideas please help me I'm confident I can fix any problem myself but first I need to diagnos the problem before I can fix it.

Thanks

When you cut the wire it may have done something to the motor. I was having problems with my alarm going off when i would unlock my door, so my stepbrother and i popped the hood and we just broke off the latch that pushes down when the hood closes. cuz it has a latch for the alarm right there, we didnt cut any wires just got rid of that and i havent had any problems since then. so you might try reconnecting that wire and then bend that little latch or break it off and see what happens. it should be black and you can push it down. it right by where the hood latches down.

the camshaft by bushmaster

I gotta change the timing belt but to do this I gotta move the camshaft to the top dead center(TDC) mark. This is where the lines on the camshaft / crankshaft are aligned with 1 another. I have the Chiltons manual it tells me how to do everything but move the cam-crankshaft with the timing belt not on. If you can please help me move this so I can get my car on the road.

1988 Acura Legend 2 DR Coupe door switch by dilog

Hi All,

I have a 1988 Acura Legend 2 DR coupe. The switch assembly(?) on the driver's side door broke (little black piece mounted on the back of the body where the door connects upon closure). Apparently this switch has something to do with the security system as my car no longer starts unless jumped and the alarm goes off constantly unless I remove the fuse. Does anyone know anything about this and how to bypass/fix? Thanks.

Hank, I know it's been a long time since you wrote to this forum. I wondered if you resolved your engine check light issue.

I have a 94 LS coupe and get check engine sometimes, speedometer does not work 95% of time, same with odometer, abs/TCS lights flash on etc sometimes. Sometimes TCS and ABS on together and i loose power. Stopping, turning off ignition, restarting resolves this until could be as little as 10 miles later if on a long journey.... wondering where to start.

Hi Conor, welcome!

You might want to also post in our Electronic Gremlins: Electrical Problems That Are Driving You Crazy discussion. It's over on the Maintenance & Repair board - there are a lot of knowledgeable folks hanging out over there.

Good luck.

ok i just recently purchased a 1992 acura legend 4 dr sedan,i have every piece of paper work ever done on the vehicle from the previouse owner. my current problem is when i turn the car on the fans run for about 1 minute and then shut off and wont turn back on, the car temperature gauge slowly goes up to the red line the whole time theres no heat inside my car and the fans do not come on. the car has had replaced within the last 5 months;radiator, t belt, water pump, therastat, all the radiator hoses and clamps, head gaskets,...im not exactly sure what my problem could be at this point, i put about 1/2 qt of radiator fluid in it when i first got it and its been staying at pretty much the same fluid level since. HELP

I would think the relays and thermoswitches responsible for fan operation would be good things to have tested.

Just traded in my 92 Legend for an 06 RL. Sniff, I'll miss her.
