It leaks when transmission fluid gets hot. Before that it does not leak. But when it gets hot - it leaks like hell. I had this problem in my '94 Taurus. I bought it with more than 100K and it was commersially used (or misused) but cheap. I discovered AT to leak badly at parking lot 40 miles away from home, I drove it stopping once in a while to add fluid but made it to home and even commuted several monthes before fixing AT. The reason was malfunction of converter clutch - it screwed computer and that caused harsh shifts. Even replacing converter did not solve problem with clutch malfunction. May be problem was computer or something else. I still managed to commute three years when leaking became bad enough to give up and at this point I was able to buy a brand new car.
#3317 of 3389 1990 Mercury Sable air bag light blinking

I am going to sell or give away my aging fathers 1990 Mercury Sable. The air bag light is blinking, ten times. I think that means a faulty firing circuit disarm device. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Thanks John

I have a 1989 Mercury Sable 3.8L that is running very rich. the code reader is giving codes 41 and 91 indicating o2 sensors are always reading "lean", so the computer is trying to compensate and add more gas. I replaces the sensors with the same result. any thought of what it might be

I have a 2002 Taurus. When it is cold outside the dash lights do not come on, only the turn indicators, when you turn on the head lights. At fisrt, last year, it took a couple of minutes for the lights to come on, now it takes up to 45 minutes. Does anyone know what might be the problem? It is unnerving to be driving at night without dash lights. Help please!

I had a similar problem with a 1994 Grand Marquis. This car was equipped with autolamps. The funny thing was, when you turn the headlights on manually, ONLY the headlights came on; no parking lights, no side markers, no instrument panel illumination; but when the automatic lamps came on, all lights came on normally. A trip to the dealer revealed the light switch on the dashboard was bad and needed to be replaced at a cost of $300.

I experience the same thing in my 2003 Taurus. Began in fall of 2006 - sometimes dashboard lights, sometimes not. I get the green lights (turn indicators) too. This week, I'm experiencing lights, then green lights, then no lights and lights again.... It's crazy!! I'm looking around the net for more info -as I think this could become a costly repair especially electrical!!!

Ford will soon announce the return of the Taurus.
Not a new vehicle, but the Five Hundred named will be scrapped and the vehicle will be rebadged as a Taurus.

We discuss it in 500/Montego forum. May be it makes sense to close this forum and rename 500/Montego forum to 500/Montego/Taurus/Sable.
