My son has a ī01 R/T, he loves the car, he bought it las November and the car has been truble free. Itīs a sharp looking car, and the exhaust sounds great; itīs a blast to drive it. This is the 5th. Neon in our family, sounds crazy but they had been reliable. |

| Don't know what it is either. You may want to try www.neons.org. | |
| I know on my 98 it was hard to change one of the fog light bulbs because a box that controls the cruise control was in the way. Maybe that's what the dealer meant by "speed control". | |
| Cruise control and speed control are the same thing. What doesn't make any sense is that the cruise in the car still works without this box in the car. Call the dealer and ask for an explanation is the only thing I would say. | |
| Someone tried to sell me a 2001 Dodge Neon SE. Because the owner got the car from a rental company, all the documents are gone. All I got is the VIN number, so I really don't know whether the Neon is really a SE or some other trim. I can only find the VIN decoding on neon.org up to 1999. Does anyone know how to decode the 2001 Neon VIN? Is there anyway to check whether the car is really a SE trim? Thanks for helps and comments! | |

Is there some feature on the SE that comes standard on it exclusively? I mean that you cannot get even as an option on another trim level. If there is such a feature and the Neon you are looking at lacks it, it is not a SE. Does anyone see a flaw in that thinking? |
|
| Look at the car and if the back door letters are "SE" and not "ES", then it's an SE. And, the SE is the lowest trim level of Neon anyway. Who cares if it's an ES and has more equipment in it. | |

I like the phrasing of Lee's first statement. Almost sounds like he got approached by a street vendor peddling used late-model Neons. "Hey you, come here. Want to buy a Neon?" Out of curiosity, Lee, was the selling party a dealer? If not, you might want to steer clear of that particular car. If you bought it, that would make you the 3rd owner of a 1 year old car - kind of a frightening proposition. Rental cars may have low miles, but they haven't been babied. Every time I feel myself getting tempted by one of those newspaper ads featuring 2001 Neons starting at $8995, I recall how I drove my last company car and quickly flip the page. |
|
| It seems like everyone always "dogs" their company and rental cars. I wonder why? | |

I just got a brand new black 2001 neon for graduation. I think its a great car. I have already put 5,000 miles on it in 4 months and I have had no problems with it. It is so much fun to drive. I feel it is a great car for any 18 year old, however I do not think it would be a good choice for anyone with a family. Also, If you really want to check out the vin number go to carfax.com they will tell you what kind of car it is, the trim level, who has owned it and if it has had any major repairs or accedents |
