High End Luxury Cars

Let's try to define this forum as being limited to luxury performance vehicles where the mainstream version in a typical configuration has an MSRP of at least $60k.
A luxury vehicle with a base price of $59k qualifies because it would typically be bought with some additional equipment, bringing the MSRP over $60k.
Vehicles like the E, 5, A6, M, or GS, even if available in certain versions over $60k, don't qualify because they are cars from companies that have higher end cars in their lineups.

But, if the purchase of a HELC was mine to make at this time, I would definately base my decision on handling as one of the more important criteria. Many others feel the same way, and determine for themsleves which HELC has the type of handling that they prefer. My wife, however, does not care as much about the handling of a car as she does the style and appearance. While not my first priority, I will admit that style and appearance are important to me also. There is no "handling" in "High End Luxury Car"; the word "Luxury" however is there as the defining quality. The words "braking" or "steering" or "powertrain" are not there either, but they are inherit characteristics of any vehicle, and they do not need to be included in the definition. Handling is an important inherent characteristic of every car at every price. Who doesn't know that? TagMan |

Replying to: blkhemi (Mar 07, 2007 5:11 pm) no offense intended. I thought I redeemed myself from that Audi comment with the post I made after: I am not trying to diss the Audi brand. I myself and the Audi drivers I know yearn to buy another Audi. Also BMW, MB and Porsche are not renowned for reliability. Audi shot up 15 spots according to the CR results. My point is who the hell cares? I mean the fact that a car brand can jump within one year without radical changes in their product-line indicates how useless those CR measures are. Hold the confetti for Audi and save it for another occasion. Those CR results are just not worth any euphoria IMO. And yes I repeat Audi, BMW and MB do not have stellar reliability stats. There is no blunder whatsoever in stating the obvious! But again if I wanted the best reliable car on this planet I would buy a i4 Corolla, Civic or Mazda3. Or even better I would solely drive my 83 MB 300D and not bother with any new cars. And in terms of reliablility and maintenance costs I would definitely avoid the new Lexus LS600Lh. I dread to think of how much such a vehicle would cost to maintain out of warranty. |

But, if the purchase of a HELC was mine to make at this time, I would definately base my decision on handling as one of the more important criteria. That's a classic cop-out. MB makes no money from "if's" and "would's." It was a purchase decision for you to make; you made it, and as someone who cares very much about handling, you got something other than HELC. That's my point. It makes no sense to get either S or 7 for someone who makes purchase decision based on handling: 5 series with identical V8 handles much better, not to mention real handlers like 911 for about the same price.

Replying to: brightness04 (Mar 08, 2007 12:20 pm) For HELC, cargo space, seat count and handling only need to be "adequate We already bought a HELC for my wife. She doesn't care about handling. But cargo space and seat count and seat space and appearance were big on her list of priorities. I drove the S550 and LS460L to have first hand experience with them, so that when I comment on them here in the forum, I know exactly first hand what they are truly like, in addition to to all the reading about them. Have you tested them to gain first hand knowledge? Do you own a HELC? ANYONE that would suggest that handling is not a relevant characteristic of EVERY car, does not know what a car is. It doesn't have to be important to all or any, but it exists nonetheless. And I suppose that swinging a bat, or running bases aren't characteristics of baseball. TagMan |

I posted this on the Luxury Lounge forum, but I just know that hpowders, Dewey, and others will appreciate this. "German automaker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is the world’s largest luxury automaker and the company has said in a statement that its profit rose 28 percent to a record..." link title TagMan
