High End Luxury Cars

You are in the Sedans Forum. Your Hosts are pat & karens
Let's try to define this forum as being limited to luxury performance vehicles where the mainstream version in a typical configuration has an MSRP of at least $60k.
A luxury vehicle with a base price of $59k qualifies because it would typically be bought with some additional equipment, bringing the MSRP over $60k.
Vehicles like the E, 5, A6, M, or GS, even if available in certain versions over $60k, don't qualify because they are cars from companies that have higher end cars in their lineups.

You should be aware that after posting the actual article about the IIHS study, and Toyota's results, I believe I always referred to Toyota's "lower" overall rating as being relative to itself, which, IMO, is exactly what the article meant for it to mean. I am quite certain you will agree that I was consistently clear on this point. Regardless, the bottom line is still the same, as you know I have been saying repeatedly throughout these posts. IMO, an excellent job, jcoby, of untangling the confusion. TagMan

That statement was posted well BEFORE I ever posted any actual article referencing the highway safety study OK, so if the statement wasn't based on the IIHS study, what was it based on? Blind faith in German superiority in all things, including safety?

Oh my !!! I got here a few minutes ago and had to wade thro' 5 pages of posts... this is surely a busy forum Let me thank DHamilton, TagMan, D-Man, and Houdini1 for all of your comments... Tag, I have surely been way behind this forum so forgive my question here: Did you ditch the Lotus for the 911 ? Or did you add the latter to the stable ? Either way, you (and Dewey) must be flowing in $$$$ ponying up serious jack for these cars... Good job, guys. D-Man, many thanks for the detailed write-up, just like Tag. You guys are just da best... I plan to drive the Boxster (see, Tag, I got it right, eh?) this weekend. I am NOT sold on auto/tip... I'd prefer an MT for sure, so I'd hold out for the 6-MT Boxster S or a 5-MT 330CiC w/SP. That S2000 doesn't sound too bad, but its I-4 motor is way too peaky and high revving. Plus the Boxster or BMW just have better looks and feel than a Honda. I will also be looking around for better deals, except that here in San Diego, its slim pickings for lux cars. You kinda get fleeced, so I may head to LA where the choices and bargains are plentiful. I can say I am definitely leaning towards the Porsche. Looks like its gonna be a lotta fun car, and with D-Man and Tag giving the car 2 thumbs up, that's good enough for me I will keep you all updated on what I end up with and when I pull the trigger. Thanks... and huge props to syswei who created this new HELC and the forum seems to be doing real great. Even Howard is being a real gentleman Dewey, did you notice my use of eh ? I am Canadian you know, but now live in the sunshine state. Like Tag told you, you'd love it here in Cali; here in San Diego, you have the beach to the West, the mountains/snow to the East, and Mexico to the South, just in case you wanna party in Tijuana Take care all... Keep it cool and real. I'll be back soon.

Replying to: oac (Dec 01, 2006 2:39 pm) Always there for my fellow Californian...you are very welcome, oac. Tag, I have surely been way behind this forum so forgive my question here: Did you ditch the Lotus for the 911 ? Or did you add the latter to the stable? Ditched the Lotus. Injured my neck (not from the car), and the Lotus's ride (truckloads of fun) was WAY too brutal, so the Porsche is MUCH smoother. Lost a little $$$ in the process due to the extremely early trade, but in the end, I'm happy as can be with the Porsche..."There is no substitute!" Keep it cool and real. I'll be back soon. Hope so, and counting on it. Good luck and keep us posted. Can't wait to hear the outcome. TagMan |

Aren't you guys the "golden state?" I've been to San Diego many times-love Balboa Park, the great zoo and especially the wonderful Hotel del Coronado. But always start missing the palmetto bugs, 'gators, lousy football and baseball after a week or so and trudge back east to Florida. |

Lexus and Mercedes-Benz have their sales data on their websites and is as follows (I found Lexus data at Toyota website): Lexus link title The LS 430 and the all-new LS 460 reported combined sales of 3,613, an increase of 116.3 percent. Mercedes link title (You will have to select December's data) Sales of the newest generation S-Class were nearly double this month over last November (2,780 vs. 1,400) I wonder what the LS460 will settle down to after the initial rush. The S-Class appears to have a natural range of 2400-2800 monthly based on monthly sales data throughout the year. I cut-and pasted the S-Class sales figures from earlier Mercedes press releases for the 2007 S-Class where a breakout was supplied. Please see below: "Boosting the February volume was the launch of the all-new 2007 S-Class, Mercedes flagship vehicle, which recorded 3,360 units, a 226.8 percent increase over February 2005" [February] "The strongest increase for the month (and for the year-to-date) was the flagship 2007 S-Class with sales of 3,033 units, an increase of 108.2 percent over last April." [April] "The strongest increase for the month (and for the year-to-date) was the flagship 2007 S-Class with sales of 2,526 units, an increase of 84.5 percent over last May." [May] "Highlights for the month include an 81 percent increase for the flagship S-Class model line (2,407 v. 1,330 units)." [June] "August sales were boosted by the Mercedes-Benz flagship S-Class which rose by 105.9 percent over August 2005 (2,427 v. 1,179 units)." [August] "Highlights for the month include an increase in sales of the flagship S-Class which rose by 126.4 percent over September 2005 (2,357 v. 1,041 units)" [September] "Sales of the newest generation S-Class were nearly double this month over last November (2,780 vs. 1,400)" [November] Audi did not present the A8 monthly sales data individually in any of the press releases that I located. The BMW data was not readily available to the general public (or I simply failed to locate it - it seems as though you have to register for the BMW Press Club to get this data).
