Let's try to define this forum as being limited to luxury performance vehicles where the mainstream version in a typical configuration has an MSRP of at least $60k.
A luxury vehicle with a base price of $59k qualifies because it would typically be bought with some additional equipment, bringing the MSRP over $60k.
Vehicles like the E, 5, A6, M, or GS, even if available in certain versions over $60k, don't qualify because they are cars from companies that have higher end cars in their lineups.

You've got to be joking if you think Toyota offers any kind of "variation". They're the dullest, most boring mainstream brand going. Nissan and Honda are much more "diverse" and offer more "variation". Ditto for Mercedes and BMW compared to Lexus. Toyota is a lot of things, but diverse isn't one of them. Have to correct you there. Even though Toyota has forgotten about the sports car market, they still make Best-selling Tacoma, have legendary truck heritage with Land Cruiser/FJ Cruiser, INNOVATIVE (Yes, I said INNOVATIVE) SUVs like the RX, they make great cars, great hybrids, and they've sold a luxury car or two through some scrub off-shoot......I forget the name of it right now. But it's doing ok. Certainly nothing to shout about.  I'm sorry making viceless cars/trucks/SUVs that do their owners bidding expertly, but doesn't bring you to a cold sweat, is such an offense.  BTW, Toyota made the Supra in 1993, and showed that they can make the best sports car in the world (yes, internationally), if they so choose to. The pot wasn't big enough at the end of the rainbow, so now we sit and mourn the loss. Don't hate us 'cause we're beautiful! DrFill

BMW: World Car of The Year Audi: South African Car of The Year Subaru: International Engine of The Year Lexus: Uhhhh....who??? Well, that pretty much covers it. Take your language dictionaries to any place on this planet and ask the native folk, which is the best car in the world and more often than not, assuming they understand your question (speak slowly), the answer will come back "BMW" more often than not. Very satisfying!

Replying to: dewey (Aug 09, 2006 3:35 am) I saw a picture of what the new 2009 BMW 5 series may look like in the September Automobile Magazine. The styling of this car appears very conservative. Maybe Chris Bangle is under some kind of restraining order and is not allowed to enter any BMW design studios/premises? Designman, it appears BMW is reading your posts. I like the new X5. They got rid of the midriff bulge that runs above the rocker panels. Everything looks very integrated and nothing screams for bad-haircut attention. It also looks like that character line (ridge) below the beltline is becoming a common theme across platforms. On the other hand the 2009 5-series photoillustration that appeared in Automobile is another shapeless abomination. The butt is s-o-o nowhere, the tail lights are Dumbo city. Saving grace is that it’s only an illustration. I have to believe car companies forage the web as research in some manner. Think I’ll apply for a job at BMW and tell them I’m designman… see what they say. But then again Merc probably would have been e-mailed job offers by now... Doctor M!

While I will readily state that it certainly had some terrific attributes, I would be very curious to know who else on this forum would agree with your statement that the Supra was the representation that Toyota can make the best sports car in the world? I have no doubt that Toyota could make a great sports car, but let's be honest, aren't you stretching things a bit here? TagMan

Replying to: tagman (Aug 10, 2006 7:24 am) It would be nice to see another Toyota with cross-drilled brake rotors, corner load sensing ABS, a limited-slip diff (unlike the "marketed" Cayman) and a six-speed manual. 320hp would be nice, too. I dont think the '93 Supra was the best sports car in the world at the time, but it was better than its direct competition, the C4 Vette, RX-7, 300ZX, and 3000GT. For whatever its worth, nobody cares about any of those cars anymore, but the Supra has achieved legend status like the GT-R. An engine capable of over 800hp certainly helps.
