#456 of 973 2002 A4 3.0 with sport and stick by markcincinnati

The performance will be very good, but not as good as the 2.7T'd S4.

The back seat will be bigger -- a bit.

The amenities will be greater -- ESP w/Brake assist will be either standard or avail.

Audi Telematics will be either standard or avail and free for one year.

The body/chassis is stiffer -- the car will be quieter and handle better and ride better

The price will be thousands less.

The tranny will be a 6spd manual (or a 5 spd tip -- but why bother?)

Sport package will be avail and inexpensive -- and of course the thing can be had w/quattro

What is IT?

====> IT is a new 2002 A4 -- which should be able to be ordered this month at a Dealer Near You (!).

Based on your communiques, I would wait for the 2002, get a bigger, nicer, not quite as quick, but less money and better appointed vehicle. Unless the raw power of the current S4 draws you to the dark side.

#457 of 973 Spridledog: Get the S4! by jbwcfp

I have gone thru the same thing you have, my wife, my kids, my friends, they couldn't wait until I made up my mind, I started mid january at the detroit auto show. I actually did make up my mind to get an x-type jaguar, so I ordered one mid march. Dealer thought the car I ordered would be around 36-37k, it came in at 42k. I thought if I was going to pay 42k I'd rather have the S4. I too did not want to spend that much, but when it came down to it I knew the s4 was worth it, and you only live once. My dealer just located an s4 avant in ohio, I might have it this weekend or next week. Stop torturing yourself and go for it. If you need more room get an avant! BTW have you driven one yet? If you do you won't be able to wipe the smile off of your face.

Anyone know where a good ground effects kit is available for the S4/A4?

In spite of my earlier post, which was based on your words, not your emotions, I find I must agree! Get the freakin' S4 it is a blast. There will NOT be a new S4 in the US for 18 - 24 months anyway.

Dealer called today, my car will be in on Friday! They found one in Ohio, with everything I wanted except Bose. That I can live without, if not speakers are an easy upgrade. It's a Light Silver Avant, with premium and cold weather. Friday will take forever to get here!

#461 of 973 Saw NEW 2000 S4 for $35,800 at dealer in SoCal... by andrewinla

I would offer invoive polus $300 for a 2001 S4. But it depends on your area and the demand if the dealer will go for it. This dealer has about 6 Avants and 5 2001 sedans. The $35.8 price was on 3 left over new 2000's.

#464 of 973 I'm in trouble... by spridledog

May 04, 2001 (10:04 am)

Yesterday I made a BIG mistake. I finally did it - I test drove an S4 with 6-speed. Now I can't sleep or get any work done! All of the concerns I mentioned on previous post(s) about the small back seat, the high price, all went out the window as soon as I pulled out of the dealer's lot! The power and Quattro combination is intoxicating! To make matters worse, this dealer has the EXACT car I want (silver w/silver leather, cold weather, premium, Bose, manual), just sitting there, calling my name! I can hear it now, saying "c'mon Spridledog, you only live once - take me home!", like a little red devil on my shoulder! I must ask, however, is the S4 really that horrible in the snow with the stock tires? Is it livable in the snow with the stock tires, or are snow tires an absolute must? Changing tires twice and year, and especially having to pay for another set of wheels/tires doesn't thrill me. Has anyone found a good all-season replacement tire that I could use all year 'round, that doesn't give up too much in the handling department? I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

Hey there, remember me? (You had questions about my S60 T5). Just happened to be checking out the S4 forum.

It sounds like the S4 is the way to go for you. As long as you can afford it, and don't need the rear seat room, what's stopping you? Nothing beats the S4 performance in this price range. Go for it!

Out of curiosity, can you get a better deal now that the A4 is coming out with a new model next year (I know it will take longer for the new S4 to come out)?
