Did you buy a rebuilt alt. ? Still could be alt. Or loose connection somewhere. When my alt. went out the lights and everything started going dim then quit. Just a thought. Dont know about fusible link. SAC

A friend of mine happen to have a scanner and checked my 95 lumina for simular problems and it ended up being the temp sensor. It was telling the computer the engine was cold so it was feeding it too much gas. Very hard problem to find without a scanner. Might help. Sensor is by the thermostat at end of radiator hose. Autozone 13 bucks. Hope it helps SAC

DRL's not working by 062458

97 Lumina DRL's not working. All other lights work as well as the automatic lighs on at dusk, turn signals, etc. I'm wondering if its the DRL module that needs replacing, or is there another relay that mya be preventing them from working. Is there a fuse located under the hood? The fuse in the interior fuse box appears to be good.

Thanks

A/C problem by cindy80

I just bought a 95 Lumina. The a/c compressor will come on. The blower works. But there are two problems.
1) Going up hills or merging into traffic the air will stop blowing out the vents or defrost vent (blower still running). Have checked vacuum lines and did not find any leaks.
2) While parked or driving cool (not cold) air comes from the two a/c vents on the drivers side while hot air comes from the two on the passenger side. The car DOES NOT have the controls to adjust the temp on drivers/passenger side.

Pulled the glove box while checking the vac lines. There is a box about 8" long with an electrical connector and an assembly of vac lines on the bottom. Disconnected the connector and no air would blow from any vent (blower still running). Disconnected the vac line assembly with same results. Can not remove each line because they are all made into an assembly. My thinking is that this box is bad but what is it?

Can anyone help? Thanks,Cindy.

I recently lost the keys to my 1995 lumina. I had a new ignition put in and I had the V.A.T. number put into the keys that came with the ignition and it still won't start. What can I do.

Are you sure its from the keys? It may be from the ignition . Have them check the wiring to make sure they got everything right. also have them check the ignition switch. Not the tumbler but the switch. If the contacts are bad it wont start either. You didnt say whether it is turning over and not starting or not doing anything. If its not doing anything check the ground from the battery also. Good luck SAC

creaking noise by petras2

i've noticed a "creaking" noise on my 98' 3.1 lumina just past the gas and brake pedals on the other side of the floorboard...it is most noticeable when lightly tapping the accelerator pedal or suddenly backing off the accelerator pedal when going staight ahead or in a turn... it may be originating in or around the steering gearbox...otherwise the steering and suspension seem fine...any ideas? thanks...

I talked to a mechanic friend and he said if its turning over but not starting more than likely its the keys. He said it is probably the resistor they have in the key for the antitheft system isnt the right one for your system. If it doesnt even turn over it is something else. Like a loose wire or bad fuse. Hope this helps. SAC

mileage on '93 chevy lumina by missdaisy

I just bought a '93 Chevy Lumina(had 167,000 m+-) a few months ago because my Mazda died. This car seems to run very well and I forgot how comfortable American cars are!! I was wanting to take a 5 hour trip and was curious about what kind of gas mileage I could expect. This is to check out a new job and being on a tight budget..just don't need any surprises. It is a V6 automatic..that is all I can offer at this time.Would have checked engine size..etc... but decided to post this on spur of the moment. (Only thing I see wrong so far with this car is the paint job! It's burgundy and clear coat has come off..the trunk is the worst.. clear coat is almost completely off. Sides look okay..hood has a few small places..I can live with it 'til I paint it)

My '91 Lumina, with 3.1 L engine, got about 27 mpg on it's last road trip. It had about 120k miles on it at the time. Get it checked out before you take off-better safe than sorry. If the fuel and air filters haven't been replaced lately, might be a good idea-she'll run better.
