No different from trading in a car that you have title to... You don't have to take ownership of the car, first... Almost every leasing institution will sell the car directly to a dealer for the payoff amount.   Selling to an individual is a different matter..   regards, kyfdx

In some cases a portion of these taxes may have to be collected up front, but it is all based on the lease payment. It is the same as buying an item in the store. Therefore, if you buy the car taxes must be paid on the purchase price.
