Replying to: whitall (Jul 14, 2009 10:52 am) "Does having a year left on an extended warranty ( a good warranty) help w/resale later down the road?"   No. From a buyer's perspective, I don't see a lot of difference between a used car with no warranty, and one which has 6 months/1 year left--the time window is so short that the likelihood of an expensive repair is slim.   Buy it if you need to for your own peace of mind, not as an investment.

Im asking for a friend of mine about an '05 Scion TC. He is getting a divorce and the wife left it behind. Trade or private party. He has a truck and just wants the car gone.   '05 Scion TC man. trans w/ 63k miles in Mobile,AL.Color is dark gray with the darker interior. Has a short throw shift and the basic options. Old lady ran an intersection, jumped the curb and hit the psgr side door of my truck while it was sitting in the parking lot.   Door was replaced and I could not tell the difference before vs after.   Yes, it shows up as Moderate Damage on carfax.

Replying to: trigger (Jul 14, 2009 9:39 pm) Gotta agree w/ del. Once a car has been damaged and repaired it is no longer considered to be in top condition. Even if you can't tell the difference in the repair a pro could. Plus you have the added whammy of a bad Carfax report. Retail buyers stay away from those cars so that will cost you $$.   Unmolested, the truck would bring low $20's on a trade. With a bad Carfax maybe high teens.
