2005.5 Jetta TDI w/DSG by juniorbill

Wondering what my trade-in is really worth. Most of the online sites are clueless about the diesel VW.

Location: St. Louis, MO
Y/M/M: 2005.5 VW Jetta TDI (this is the "New Jetta" that was introduced mid-year, with the current A5 body style)
Body Style: 4dr
Engine: 4 cyl turbodiesel, direct-sequential gearbox (DSG) = automated manual transmission; real-world 40 mpg combined average (documented)
Driveline: FWD
Mileage: 76,500
Color: Dark blue/black "leatherette"
Major Options: 6 disc in dash CD/MP3 player; heated front seats, washer nozzles and mirrors; dual-zone automatic climate control; rain-sensing wipers; automatic headlights; auto-dimming mirror; side body and side curtain airbags; ABS; electronic stability control
Condition:
Few very minor dings on the body. Interior is in very good condition.
Everything works.
Tires - about two years old
Brakes - still good; changed fluid about 6 months ago
Maintenance - all up to date with records
Other: I wrecked the front end when it was 3 months old but it was repaired good as new and been great since. Replaced broken windshield about a year and a half ago. Defective dual-mass flywheel was replaced a couple of months ago under extended warranty.

Thanks for thoughts!

I've always found the Bangle Z4s, even the latest ones, kind of ugly, although I've been a longtime fan of BMW (had a 525i with stick for nine years -- great car). I'm sure they're good cars under the skin and probably getting closer to Boxster handling. My faith in Bimmers was shaken recently after one friend decided to ditch a fairly new 328xi after thousands of dollars in out-of-warranty engine work and another friend took her convertible to a big dealer here that touts its service, but failed to properly diagnose what was a pretty simple alternator problem. If I was choosing today, I might go with a 330i convertible over the Boxster, even with some sacrifice in handling.

I understand how you feel about your Porsche. I felt that way about my '95 968 and thought I had to have something new by buying a Boxster. I would have been better off putting more money into the 968. A lot of people say that Porsche isn't what it used to be. Many of the early to mid-'90s cars were still pretty much hand-built and had that quality feel that you don't get today. Based on my limited comparison between 968 and Boxster, I'd agree. Just for comparison (and to stay relevant with this forum), I sold my 968 for about 45% of what I paid for it after 10 years of ownership. I bet the percentage is close to the same for the Boxster after only 3.5 years of ownership.

I appreciate your thoughts. I have an '01 330i that's been a terrific car & that I will almost certainly keep for at least another year. Still, I'd love to have a roadster, although selling the idea to my wife will be a struggle.

Miata values depend on the miles.
2006's anywhere from $9-12k
2007's anywhere from $10-14k

These are also hard to figure.
Unmolested, I'd say in the $9-10k range on a trade.
Your value depends on the damage, how well it was repaired and the Carfax.
Value could drop a grand or $4 grand easy.
