looks like a nice car Q (from what they show), but the '01s don't have the best reputation.

Wasn't the T5 a 2.4l in those days? I know that the LPT engine went from 2.4 to 2.5l ~ 2005, but was the T5 a 2.3L still in 2001? In any case, that is probably a typo.

It does have geartronic, so that bodes well for being a T5 (in case you don't trust the tag on the back!)

Those were the wheels that came as standard on the T5- fancier ones that you normally see were an upgrade. We used to have an '01 T5 and paid for the upgrade.

IIRC, the T5 engine was a 2.3L 5 Cylinder High Pressure Turbo in the 2001's.

Hope that helps.

I emailed the seller and he said he put in the wrong VIN by mistake. Here is the correct one:
YV1SW53D411006750

Thanks, firefighter, for the info on the wheels.

So, vmax, what do you think that's worth on a trade? Also, would you by any chance be familiar with the GT on the '01? Does it self-shift even in manual mode? Or does it bounce off the rev limiter, for instance, if I don't shift it?

If I did happen to buy such a vehicle, its intended purpose is for racing, hence the question.

That is certainly the wrong VIN.
I noticed that none of the pictures showed the VIN plate, so who knows what the VIN truly is.

The wheels are correct, they were the standard wheel for the T5 that yr.

Acura dealer showed you $12k. Chances are they overallowed on your car.
Still, if you are happy w/ the bottom line that is all that matters.

Volvo's geartronic transmissions, unlike most everyone elses, do not self shift if you hit redline.
However, I seriously doubt the wisdom of racing a 94,000 mile car.

No wisdom needed in racing.

Its just autoX. The thing that gets punished most is the tires.

So what about a value?

I'm prefer to hold out for a 5-speed, of course, but we know I could grow old and grey before that comes along.

Ya, thats what I thought but I got the MDX for only $100 more than the quote I got from the other Acura dealerships last month. No complaints here but I'm still wondering how or why they took it although I just checked their website and my car is listed (no price yet), along with 33 other S40s with selling prices ranging from $14.9k to $21k...

fyi, fitzmall has another '01 T5 with 85K on it. Looks nice (blue over tan).

Even better, they have a 2005 Saabaru 9.2x. Black, with a 5 speed. Believe it is the non-turbo model. Only about 10K IIRC, with 65K clicks on the odo.

That seems like it should be a nice little auto-x rat mobile.

the s40 is a kissing cousin to the mazda 3. so i'm guessing the used values are in the same ballpark, although they were priced quite a bit apart new.
