The trouble is, people read things like that and some actually believe it.

I'll probably hear a customer say..." I hear Fits need a 1000.00 brake job every 5000 miles!" Pure rubbish.

I'm very surprised your Pilot needed rotors at 40,000 miles. Never heard of such a thing.

And, no, I don't think Fits share many, if any parts with a Civic. Still, availability isn't a problem at all.

Well, Isell already said it, $1000 brake job is complete BS

Considering the prices dealerships charge... doesn't sound like BS to me. I went in for an oil change today, the dealership said I needed new brake pads. It was $244 just to turn the rotors and put on new pads (front only).

On the other side of the coin, we have a local franchise called "Brakeway". For $99 they replace all 4 brakes, turn your rotors, and bleed your system... then they bleed your wallet with all the upselling.

2007 VW GTI.
4 door. Silver. moonroof/sat tunes package
DSG tranny
18" wheel option (with summer tires, nice for a philly winter!)

only 12K miles on it. Seems pretty clean overall.

at a local new car (non-VW) dealer.

what is a realistic price on this, considering it needs tires for the winter?

well, like i said, our Pilot was $600, and that was at a dealership, and all 4 rotors and 4 sets of pads.

ahhh... wait... come to think of it, I think that was just turning the rotors, not replacing them. So that's still pretty close to your price of $250 for the fronts only.

But, again, this is a Pilot. $1k on a Fit? I can't buy that. And certainly not every 5k miles. Hell, my 3700lb G35 is not even halfway through its pads and I've now driven it nearly 10k miles AND put 9 autoXs on them in addition to an hour on a full track exceeding 100mph.

For a brake job on my 99 CRV it was like $180 and that included new pads, turn the rotors, new brake fluid, and adjust the rear drums. *sigh* I miss that vehicle. Best darn one I ever had.

Whoever wanted snow tires should just buy a set of regular all-season tires, then have them siped. Problem solved.

If someone actually manages to get bad gas mileage and bad traction and bad reliability out of the Fit then they are officially the worst driver on earth.

Give them an award.

Years ago, a tire shop talked me into havin the tires on my Mazda RX-7 "siped". I wasn't able to tell the slightest improvement...nothing.

sorry i can't provide a value on the 'Fit', but a lot of cars can start in 2nd gear if you put the shift lever in '2'. this can help reduce wheelspin, if that is the issue.
