Local dealer in San Diego says my mint 2008 Civic EX auto sedan with 7500 miles is only worth $13500 but Edmunds TMV says $17500,KBB say $18115,NADA $18175,
so what gives.Why the difference?

Its a GLS (not the 'W' 6 GLX).

Does this economy kill trade-ins/private sales by 25% or more then even 6 mos or 1 yr ago? (Not counting Fits, Prius', Smartcars or Civics)?

Anyway - let me know what you think is a realistic trade-in as well as a private sale on my '00 Passat. Thanks.

I think that the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Looks to me like $15,000 is closer to the number.
However, with the price of gas going down, these cars aren't retaining their value like they did.

Probably pretty accurate.

Right now, Honda is offering low finance rates on 2009's which can make a 2008 harder to sell.

Well, Isell already said it, $1000 brake job is complete BS ... or your buddy is a complete sucker and found the most crooked service department in the country. Even our Pilot (read: a FAR heavier vehicle with bigger and more expensive brakes) went 40k miles on its first set and only cost $600 for all new rotors and pads.

And why would there be a wait for parts, don't these essentially share most parts with the Civic?

Hmmm... wait a sec... $1k brake jobs, long wait for parts, OH, now I get it, your buddy lives in Australia! Hey, that's what you get for buyin' one of them there foreign cars. Tell him that Holden makes an El Camino-like car.

The trouble is, people read things like that and some actually believe it.

I'll probably hear a customer say..." I hear Fits need a 1000.00 brake job every 5000 miles!" Pure rubbish.

I'm very surprised your Pilot needed rotors at 40,000 miles. Never heard of such a thing.

And, no, I don't think Fits share many, if any parts with a Civic. Still, availability isn't a problem at all.

Considering the prices dealerships charge... doesn't sound like BS to me. I went in for an oil change today, the dealership said I needed new brake pads. It was $244 just to turn the rotors and put on new pads (front only).

On the other side of the coin, we have a local franchise called "Brakeway". For $99 they replace all 4 brakes, turn your rotors, and bleed your system... then they bleed your wallet with all the upselling.

2007 VW GTI.
4 door. Silver. moonroof/sat tunes package
DSG tranny
18" wheel option (with summer tires, nice for a philly winter!)

only 12K miles on it. Seems pretty clean overall.

at a local new car (non-VW) dealer.

what is a realistic price on this, considering it needs tires for the winter?
