Yeah, even many AWD vehicles are not that great in snow and ice if they don't have Winter tires. I knew someone who skidded into the back of another car in an AWD Subaru on snow, w/the stock summer or "all weather" tires.....

Where are you that people need studded tires? Would not regular snow tires do it?

Almost bought a 2009 Fit myself, but was pissed that the sport model did'nt come with traction control, plus the car is way overpriced. The Fit is a car for Southern California. You are better off and money ahead buying an Accord LX Auto.

Studded tires have been illegal in Illinois for years - I remember helping my father pull them out of a set of snow tires when I was a kid back in the '70s.

Where the heck do you live?

People were getting around just fine prior to the days of AWD, FWD, traction control, etc, etc. Seriously, your neighbor just needs driving lessons. No car is going to cure the problem.

Wholesale is probably $10-11,000, so the retail price isn't bad.

Not a lot of feedback for this model.
I'm gonna guess wholesale A $15,000 or so.
You might have a grand or so of wiggle room, then again you might not.
