You have to assume that the A/C needs replacement not a charge.

How much would this devalue a car in the north?

To me, reading that would make the car worth zero dollars. I'd be asking myself, what else is wrong with the car? Was it maintained, even at a minimum?

Just to offer a different answer - the A/C on my '91 Escort blew up and it cost me $700 to replace, but that was a long time ago.

I'd say about $1000 off.

But...you eliminate a lot of potential buyers. You'd be better off selling a car like that to a college student, so that might limit your asking price to a few grand.

In other words, it's acceptable in a beater, but not acceptable in any car that the buyer would have to finance.

If it was a fairly late model, say 4 or 5 years old, it would most likely be worth going ahead an fixing it. It could be any number of parts along the way that rendered the AC inoperable. An ad like oldfarmer mentions would lead me to believe it is a full replacement of a major component. If the car had a resale value of $10k plus, spending $400 or $700 would be the better move.

My own car has a bad compressor clutch. It's buried. About a $700 repair. Car's only worth around $1500-1700. I'll just live with the windows down.

Both at local dealers, haven't seen in person, but assume nice and clean.

2005 V70 2.5T. 25K miles, silver over taupe, normal equipment (nice and loaded). CPO.

2008 V50 2.4i. Black over grey leather, select package so roof, etc. non-CPO.

Both in philly metro area.

Would says the oracle of Volvos? Especailly interested in a real price on the 2005. I have a pretty good idea from past postings on the V50!

Trade in value on a 2001 RX300 with Nav? by ny14337

I need to trade in my 2001 Lexus RX300 and I'm wondering what I can expect to get from a dealer. I live on Long Island, NY, a suburb of NYC. The vehicle is an 2001 Lexus RX300 AWD with 88,000 miles. It has all the normal bells and whistles, including factory installed navigation and a 6 disc CD changer. It is in excellent condition with one or two very small dings and clean leather with no rips. Clean title and has never been in a accident or had an insurance claim.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking to buy a 2007 Sonata GLS 4 cyl., auto., silver, sunroof, power drivers seat, 37K miles, new tires, asking price is $11,995, in Oklahoma City. I got the Carfax report, and it's a former rental, with no problems that I could see. Could you tell me the wholesale value on that? TIA.

Trade In Value of 03 BMW 325i by dhunter03

Hi,

I was hoping that someone can help me evaluate trade-in value of my car. I don't think my situation is unique but this is the first time that I am considering to trade in a vehicle that was involved in an accident.

Location: Washington DC area
2003/BMW/325i
4dr, auto, 35k miles, black
Options: only options were auto, sun-roof

The car is in an excellent shape. However about 3 years ago I was involved in collision in/out of shopping center. At the time my insurance nearly determined that my car was considered "totaled". However the "final" estimate determined that it was ~$2,000 below the threshold level of considering it "totaled" so I ended up getting my car repaired instead of receiving a check.

At the end of the repair, the final cost was $2,500 higher than what was originally estimated. Needless to say had I known, I would have received an amount that was worth my vehicle.

I appreciate any input/response on my vehicle trade in value.
