Replying to: volvomax (Sep 22, 2008 8:54 am) I'm interested in buying a CPO, so I would also appreciate any negotiating/buying tips for those, or realistic target price for CPO (X amount below asking, etc). My trade-in: Black 2005 Dodge Durango Limited, AWD, w/ Hemi 48,000 miles (bought it CPO 8year, 80,000 miles... if that matters) Moonroof, Nav, Rear Air, Rear DVD Body's in good shape, a few minor dings/scratches, Interior is good (no rips, etc). Normal wear on tires etc., replaced a few things like brake pads, as needed. Overall it's in pretty good condition.

I thought about this for a while...you may want to list it for sale in upscale neighborhoods, where buyers tend to be more image-conscious, and therefore willing to pay a premium for the Jaguar name. Here in the DC area, that would include Bethesda, MD, and McLean, VA, for instance. But if the car is in FL on the gulf coast, it's probably not worth the effort to ship it up here. Just advertise in upscale areas in FL. Just a thought. Target the marketing in local publications in those areas. |

I bought this for my wife AFTER I left the DC area(N.VA), the AWD would definitely come in handy. Alot of people in DC, like me, had to be at work, regardless of weather, no excuses. I had other AWD vehicles at the time which worked fine, but I witnessed more that one vehicle flipped on its roof during the minor snows they get. Thanks for the advice.

| "Volvomax has essentially confirmed my opinion that your car has limited value because it was never a strong seller" Don't think so. My non-sport 2.5 X-type had an MSRP of $29965 (source: http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/2003-jaguar-x-type-2.htm). Volvomax put a retail number on the car of $10,000. That means over the last 6 years it has depreciated an average of 11% per year, or roughly 66.67%. Wow. I can name 4 or 5 Mercedes(E-class,M-class,R-class,C-class)and at least 3 BMW's (X3,X5,Z4) that have depreciated at the same rate in just 4 years, and they left the dealer lots like they were on fire. The rate at which a vehicle depreciates is obviously more complex than just how well it sold as new. Speaking of which, my wife's particular Jaguar is still the best selling Jaguar model in the history of the company, selling 50,000 models in 2003 alone, (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_X-Type). Unlike you, LongIslander, I have supported every point I have made with documentation. YOU are the one who started this, making false claims about the Ford Mondeo's safety record(based on your memory), which I rebuffed with actual crash data(4 out of 5 stars). (Source: http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/story/?nID=26344). Of course the data was from the European Testing organization, NCAP, it was designed and built in Europe(duh). But I knew a person like you would try and discount this, which is why I also referenced the US NHTSA test results, rating the X-type at 4 out of 5 stars, again, well above average (source:http://www.nhtsa.com/). As I have documented, the car did not score poorly in crash test results, here or abroad, and is the all-time best-selling Jaguar. Regardless of what someone may "think" about the model, it was built by Jaguar craftsman in a Jaguar plant in England. Is it an XJ? No. Did it's sales numbers fall after it's initial release? Absolutely, as have many others. Do these factors have any bearing on it's current "limited" value, as you put it. Absolutley not. All cars have "limited" value, but the unsubstantiated reasons you gave regarding the car were patently false, which is why you are acting so arrogant. You were caught red-handed looking like an uninformed boob. But it could be worse. You could be a New Yorker who works on Wall Street and due to incompetence and outright theft, have caused the largest financial crisis in this country since the Great Depression. You know where I work, you don't work on Wall Street, do you? | |
