found a passat wagon to look at, and wondering about what it should go for.

2005 passat GLS wagon. 1.8T engine, auto tranny
dark blue over gray (leatherette it looks like). alloy wheels
Pretty sure it has a moonroof.
in PA (outside philly)
30,000 miles on it. from the pixs, it looks clean.
at a VW dealer. No mention of it being certified.

assuming it isn't CPO, what would be a reasonable price for this puppy? They are asking just under 17K

2005 Accord EX-L by stickguy

have to do something with the current ride if I move on to something new..

2005 Accord EX-L 4 door, 4 cyl, 5 speed (yes, a manual tranny)
all the normal EX-L stuff (lether, roof, XM radio)

29,000 miles on it.

Overall clean. A couple of minor door ding type nicks, but shines up nice. Original tires and brakes. interior has no issues.

Only damage is to the front bumper cover. There is a small hole and crack from getting hit by a trailer hitch. I never bothered to get a new one put on.

Still under warranty until 12/08.

I would trade if could get an OK offer, or private sale (yuck). What do the experts think it shold go for in either case?

And, would it be worth spending the money on the bumper (about $5-600 for a new one on the car and painted)?

It does at least get really good mileage, which should help these days!

Thanks stickguy thats actually a good idea, I will check with VW Credit if they can do that. Wouldnt mind still knowing what a realistic trade-in value is for the car though

Used Hondas and Toyotas are generally not good values, because they depreciate much more slowly than other brands of cars. Conventionally accepted wisdom is that if you're looking at a 1-2 year old Honda or Toyota, you might as well buy new.

2005 passat GLS wagon. 1.8T engine, auto tranny

Have you driven it yet? I found the 1.8T engine to have pretty bad turbo lag, especially with an automatic.

I am still in the evaluation phase. Haven't moved onto the driving phase (where contenders often get eliminated).

THis is my first foray into the world of auto trannies, except for the wifes minivans. I have driven the 1.8 with a stick and liked it.

I did drive a Volvo S60 2.5T (low pressue turbo) yesterday. That baby had no problem IMO with lag. punched it at around 25 and it felt like I was shot out of a cannon.

It's not like my Accord 4 cyl has instantaneous torque at low RPMs either.

If it's a real used car, and not a service loaner, should price out somewhere between $23-25k.

Car's probably worth $13-14,000
Add in the taxes and it's isn't worth buying if you are just going to trade it.
