Wow, those are good values for the Outback.

From a buyer's perspective, you may as well buy new. They start around $20k.

A reporter would like to talk to mothers who use a large SUV to transport children but are now considering a smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicle as a result of high gas prices. Please respond to jwahledmunds.com with your daytime contact information along with your current vehicle and the vehicle/s you are considering no later than Wednesday, June 11th.

Thanks,

Good question and I don't mind at all. We had run this inter-school mail/delivery service for many years and finally discontinued it due to funding issues (it was partly supported by state funds which are no longer available and without that money the cost per district was prohibitive for some of the smaller districts and they dropped out making the whole thing implausible after this recently ended school year). Over the almost 13 years I have been here we have had Dodge Caravans, Ford Rangers, and Chevrolet Malibu Maxx's. We had severe expensive maintenance problems with the Caravans and Malibus, and the Rangers were fine, but not "user-friendly" for delivering volume mail (too much hands and knees crawling in the pick-up bed). We are a county school system and our board insists that we buy within the county. There is a new Toyota dealership in the county and they decided to try them. Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks and thanks to volvomax as well. Don't think I'm going to go this route because the mileage rating is about the same as my Element for city, and that's where I'm looking for savings. We have a minivan so I don't need 2 family type vehicles. From the value on the Element, I should be able to trade into something more compact/efficient for a similar payment and save $80-$100 per month in gas. Car shopping used to be a lot more fun. Oh well. Thanks again.
