Actually, every $1000 down reduces the payment by approximately $30/mo., not $20/mo... on a 36 month lease...

And... as you say... just a general rule of thumb...

On a longer lease, it might be close to $20/month..

That sounds about right...I guess it would depend on the term of the lease.

I got 2 close-in-price quotes this afternoon from Central NJ:
2006 Passat 2.0T Tip w/ Package 2 (MSRP of $28,415) for $26,651.
The best quote came on the first phone call, so there may be slightly more wiggle room.

Sounds like a decent deal especially for a 36 mo term with 18K per year!!!!

I concur... All the costs of the lease are rolled into the payment (which is a good thing), including taxes.... Looks very good..

Pricing for a brand new '04 Passat by cakecpa

We've been looking for '05 Passat's and they've been pretty hard to come by in the local area. I found the VW dealer nearest me has a few brand new '04's remaining. I know the '05's have $2000 in dealer $, but I'm having a tough time trying to figure a target price for the '04. The one we are interested in is a GLS with leather, auto and alloy wheels. I believe the sticker is $27,305 or so. I can't find invoice info on Edmunds for the '04 anymore, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The $20/month for every $1000 borrowed is a good rule of thumb on 60 month financing. But not a short term 24 or 36 month lease. You have a lot less time to pay the money back, and it increases to $30-40 month extra.
