There is no Owner Loyalty thorugh VW Credit on the New Passat. It is available on all of the other models. They (VW) feels that the lease incentive is good enough to get people in the door and down the road in the new '06 Passat.

Hmm, did some research on cars.com. Edmunds doesn't have this info yet I believe.

First, EPA is 22/31, apparently for both 2.0 and 3.6 models. That may be optimistic for the 3.6.

Second, you can't get xenons, HomeLink or Rear Shades at all until you move up to the V6. And even then, you have to buy it as a part of a huge package.

Pretty limited. You can get xenons and HomeLink on a Mazda 3 for heaven's sake!

We got the car in Plainville, CT. I assume you mean $0 down for out the door cost?

We didn't get Package 1, we got the "Standard" edition (base), right below package 1. They are also advertising a "Value Edition" which is only about $1000 less than the Standard, but not much of a difference in options. The MSRP was $23,900.

I bought my 2002 Passat after a 36 mo lease. I was not able to negotiate a lower price but paid about 14K for the car. I was under the mileage allowance and thought I should buy it for now. It was quite simple to purchase. If you have any questions, let me know.

jblash, thanks for your experience. A few questions:

Did they include CPO status or an extended warranty? For what price?
Did they offer you a good finance rate?
How much mileage did you have at lease end?
Are you happy with your purchase and has the car held up?
How much have you spent to maintain and repair your VW after lease purchase?
What kind of climate do you live in (I am in the hot/arid climate, car has held up well for 2.75 years +/-, with partial garaging.)

In my case, I have a 2003 GLS Tip/Leather that will have about 28,000 miles at lease end that has not given me any problems. I like the car, and have run the numbers, and it may save me between $2,500 and $5,000 to purchase and use for another 3 years assuming I will spend about $1,500 in maintenance (tires, oil, allowance for two major services) and assuming $1,500 in repairs, depeding on the final purchase price, financing available, and ability to get CPO.

If VW does not offer CPO status for about $1k or less, deal become shakier.

Right now, I have not seen any car out there that is compelling enough that it is a must buy/lease over my Passat (looked at the TL, G35, Legacy GT, decided not to look European again.) although these were all nice cars.

Final decision will be based on what market has to offer in Nov/Dec 2005, but figure I will call VW shortly (before CPO 2.9% financing expires) to discuss options and negotiate, if possible.

When I had a SAAB as my last lease through Chase, they were desperate to get rid of it (very poor resale on these). They dropped the residual almost $4k with little discussion.

Yesterday, I purchased a 2006 Passat 2.0T with Package #1 w/XM Satellite Radio, 6 speed Triptronic, and cold weather package. Got a sweet deal!! 25,000 before taxes and fees. Sticker price was 27,440. So far, I love the car and have no complaints other than the manual is pretty thick!!

I have looked in all dealers by where I live and I have yet to see one with manual transmission. I am sure they will be arriving in the next few weeks if not months. Email Volkswagen directly and they will give you a response.

Hi folks.
Great group!
Have some lease quotes that I'd like to run by you.
I put quite a few miles on cars, so I was intrigued by these phone quotes from my local dealer in Central NJ:
2006 Passat 2.0T
Auto
Package 2

All quotes would have 1st month's payment, lease inception, tags, title etc. (totals about $1000) up front. No Cap cost. Monthly sales tax included.
12K - $350
15K - ~$370
18K - ~$385

Sales guy said VW is pretty motivated to get these rolling out the door.
Seems pretty aggressive.
Am I missing something or should I pounce on this??
