Re: Buy 02-04 Passat now or wait till new 06 is out? [laverdure] by bill1975

I'm in the same boat as Laverdure. However, I don't think the new B6 Passat will affect the USED Passats, only the remaining NEW ones. Car dealers will always have older used cars, and the used lot is usually (physically) seperate from the new one. So I dont know if there is any incentive for them to reduce price on the used ones. Probably only the new ones. However I'm trying to get an idea on prices as well. I'd like a CPO 03-04 GL or GLS with under 35k miles. I'm thinking a price between $14k and $17k. It seems like a lot of dealers are asking well above blue book value. It also seems like there is a big difference between the trade in and retail blue book value. My strategy is to start a few hundred about the trade in value rather than to try and talk them down. I figure this is similar to the new car buying strategy of offering a couple hundred above invoice rather than talking down from MSRP. Any ideas? Thanks!

Anybody getting invoice? by jbaer

I'm in the market for a 2005 GLS sedan with manual transmission. Is anybody getting invoice out there these days? I would imagine with the 2006 on the way that invoice should be easy to get however, when I went to the dealer yesterday they offered me 23,995 which is only 1k off MSRP. I basically laughed at them and walked out. Thanks for any advice.

I just got a new Black 2005 Passat GLS TDI w/leather and wook package for $24,200. It's MSRP was $27,900. There are definetly good deals to be had out there right now.

Yeah, I felt like I got a really good deal. I went there last Friday, drove the car and offered 23,500 for it. They laughed me out of the place and so I headed home thinking I would never hear from them again. The next day I got a call and we battled back and forth over the phone and settled on 24,200. I was happy and am loving my new TDI passat. It's a thing of beauty.

$1,000 off MSRP doesn't sound like a great deal to me. You should be able to get the GLS at invoice or lower. from what I have heard, dealers have a $2,000 incentive on '05 Passats. Good luck!

There is apparently a $2k incentive on passat wagons and $1k incentive on passat sedans. Unfortunately these dealer incentives are only good for purchasing of the car. If you want to lease there is only $600 dealer incentive on the sedan. Not sure what it is for the wagon. These deal runs until the beginning of may. It will be interesting to see what they do after may. I am guessing the incentives will go up with the '06 passat coming soon but that is just a guess.

I just bought a 2004 Gls wagon 1.8turbo with leather, automatic with the opitonal systronic manual shifting transmission, cold weather package, sun roof and esp. Sticker price was 27,800. Car had 70 miles on it and I paid 22,350 before taxes. How did I do? I financed the car for 3 years at 3.65% through my local credit union.
