Sounds like a good price for a 16K mile car.

dealer has offered me a 2005 passat wagon gls tdi with leather delivered (they will drive) to my door (300 miles from their dealership to me) for 26,472 cash. This includes all taxes, licensing, title and registration. I give them the check they give me the car. Is this an good deal or could I do better? I used the consumer reports price guide and it appears to me to be an ok deal but it seems you guys are the experts so please advise. Thanks

Consumer reports guide, (like most other consumer reports data), is incomplete and/or not current. Go to the Edmunds Passat Site. Although not reflected in the TMV pricing page, you will find a small blurb about $2,000 dealer marketing support through 5/2/05. This is not a consumer rebate, (which would be advertised and apparent), but is cash to the dealer to help move out the remaining 05 Passats before new model intro in August. Depending on how aggressive you and the dealer feel, you may get invoice less the whole 2k. Previous VW owners can get $500 additional. Whether the deal will get better as we approach August is questionable depending on inventories as well as the fact that the new passat will be much more expensive and there will be no TDI option for a year or two. This makes now a great time to buy the car. Like someone else said in another post, I would rather have a car from the last model run as opposed to the first model run. BTW, this is not just theory, I picked up my new GL Wagon TDI with ESP yesterday, (still wrapped in plastic with 11 factory miles, when I chose it). MSRP was $25,252 and I paid $21,196 plus $100 dealer handling, (despite my tantrum on the latter, they would not budge. Get 6 to 10 internet quotes from dealers in your area, (link from VW site or Edmunds), print out your return e-mail offers, take them to dealer with the car you want. Salesman told me 05 with TDI is already out of production so grab a remaining model quickly.

Just curious--which dealer was this that sold the Passat GL Wagon with ESP for $21,196? Or at least which city :~)

Got the last one at Russel in Baltimore, MD. They matched a quote from Ourisman in Laurel. Heritage in Owings Mills came in about $170 higher. King in Gaithersburg came in about $1,000 higher, but when the internet salesman followed up and I informed him of my purchase, he said he could have done it at $21,007. I suggest you act quickly if you want a GL...very few left and they are out of production. There are more GLS models left if you want the leather, sunroof and higher price. BTW - LOVE THE CAR!

This sounds like a pretty good deal......what options are on the car? I picked up an '05 Passat GLS TDI sedan in February....Graphite Blue/Gray Leather, Cold Weather/Wood package, ESP.....etc. etc. for $25,700....BUT that included $500 VW loyalty...so really $26,200. MSRP was $27,934 so I was $2200 below that and about $200-300 over invoice (dealer has got to make their money too)..so $26,472 for a "drive out" price, IMHO, is a pretty good deal.

Just purchased a 2005 Passat. It is a GLS TDI, automatic with leather/wood package. Sticker price was 27,800 and I paid 24,250. The guy said he could only do that deal at an interest rate of 8.5%. I offered 24,250 cash and they took it. This was at Ray Reece VW in Portland, OR. They ran an add last week for a TDI GLS for 21,900. This was without the leather and the color choices were crap IMO. I saw the black one with leather and fell in love with it. I said how about this car at 21,900 plus the price of the leather package which brought it to 23,500. They said no way, so I headed home. The next day I got a call and we battled back and forth over the phone and finally got to the price that I paid, 24,250 (plus a full tank of gas). Let me know if you think that I got a fair deal, great deal, or got ripped off. Thanks guys, BTW this forum really helped make my buying experience much less painful than I expected it to be.

Hi PR,
The car is an '05, Passat wagon GLS tdi, black with black leather, cold weather/wood, ESP. A dealer closer to home offered me the same care for $26,772 but not with leather/wood package and the price did not include taxes and licensing/dmv fees as the other did. I guess by comparison of the two it is a no brainer but I was just wondering if I could do better. If I go through with the deal they will deliver no later than this Friday 4/22 then on 4/27 we will be driving from Wisconsin to South Carolina for a little get-a-way. If not we will still be driving but in our 2000 Saab 9-3 sedan instead.

Buy 02-04 Passat now or wait till new 06 is out?

Hi all,
First post on this great forum. I want to buy a 02-04 used Passat sometimes in the next couple of months. Should I wait for the new 06 Passat to be out hoping I'll get a better deal on the "older" model, or will it not make a difference and I might as well go ahead sooner?
Thanks for any input!
