| Does it exist? Looked at Passats today. We have been trying to decide what to get for our next car and think that you can't beat VW for the fun and performance for the price. There are great deals on the GLS, but does the GLS with 4-Motion really exist? The dealer today said that it will not until 2005, however this site makes me believe otherwise. I checked inventory in Illinois where we live and in NJ. Has anyone found one elsewhere? | |
| Yes it exists. You may have to get your dealer to search for you. I am not sure the rebates are still available, though. I have had my 04 GLS 1.8T manual with 4 motion for 2 weeks now, and am very happy with it. | |
| I had a 2001 Passat (before the changes) with a 1.8T 4 cyl and 5 Speed manual, and got fabulous mileage (23 city/33 highway) I traded for a 2003 Passat with same engine (20 more horsepower) and automatic transmission. I feel lucky when I see 15 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. I am the only Passat owner experiencing this?? Please let me know. | |

Some of the price disparity may be due to our different locations (Baltimore/Washington v NC) and different demands for the automatic v manual. I paid about invoice less $2230. Your best offer looks to be about invoice less $1900. In that context your offer does not look so bad. Carsdirect.com indicates that auto adds about $1100. Much of my dealing (except for the final $500 or so) came through e-mail using the dealer's web sites and without any human contact. Then, I contacted several dealers by phone and determined what they would do in view of the best e-mail offer I had received. Consider e-mailing a dealer you have not yet contacted, but remember there are advantages to a local dealer. How assertive have you been in determining the extent of dealer incentives and letting the dealer know you are aware of these incentives? (Edmunds, carsdirect) Will the dealers negotiate charges for plates etc.? The 26,350 number did not include these charges. Best of luck- |

| Anybody know how Edmunds arrives at it's $30008 invoice price for a GLX 4Motion? My calculations give me a figure closer to $30911, with $28K as a base price GLX, $1073 for triptronic, and $1800 for 4Motion. | |
