VW Incentives for January by mdbpetry1

There appear to be no incentives offered at this time by VW. Will that change? When? Any feedback is appreciated.

VW has no plans to incentivize. It was reported in yesterday's paper in Toronto (the Globe and Mail). They want VW to move upscale and want to protect brand equity as much as possible which shows (at least on this side of the Border) in the residual values. There is also a story in the Globe and Mail today about how incentives are actually resulting in a DECREASE in sales for the Big 3 in the U.S.

If you are buying VW Passat, you are buying for handling, styling, quality and prestige of driving a car that is more unique and not often seen, hence the lack of incentives and price point.

Buying experience Wagon GLX 4Motion by mibo888

Bought a 04 Wagon GLX 4Motion here in California just before Christmas. Shopped around a bit, and ended buying at 300 over invoice. I received that offer from multiple dealers, even though sometimes I had to ask first. So far I'm very pleased with the driving experience, even though we have only 500miles on it. Will be doing some more serious driving, incl. snow soon!

Which dealership did you get it from? Just curious. I have a leased 03 GLS I got from Hall and wondering which dealership cut their price that much.

We did our deal at Boucher VW, on 108th Street in Franklin. We picked up the car tonight and I saw two or three 03 GLX's sitting around back. We also had a few discussions with EVS, and I think we could have come close to invoice on an '04 had we gone that route.

Really like the car by the way -- quiet, good power, and way more cush than the CR-V we traded. Hoping we don't have reliability issues, but if we do I'll be posting them.

'01 Passat GLX 4Motion (old body style) by automan227

My son has been driving our '01 V70 T5 Wagon since he got his license back in August, and it is going back in less then a month.

I was driving by our VW dealer, and they had on the lot the following:

2001 Passat GLX 4Motion Sedan (old body style)
All Options including CD Changer
55,267 Miles
VW Certified

Car drove beautifully, but the only thing that bothered me was the high miles. However, bearing in mind that it had a warranty and my son would just be using it to drive up and back to school each day (less then 2 miles each way), it would not be a problem. Initially the dealer was asking $18,365 and right now have him at $16,700 and $18,000 including tax and tags. I feel like $16,200 (before TTL) is fair, and that price could very well happen within the next day because it looks like they have had it for a while.

According to Edmunds the deal they are offering is well under what it should be for dealer retail, however for my area, the numbers have been consistently off on everything used.

Does what they are offering now seem fair or am I being unreasonable with wanting $16,200?

Also, what are the terms of the VW Certified Warranty?

Thanks so much for your help and promptness in responding.

^^UPDATE: The dealership showed me their invoice from the auction where they purchased the car, and cannot go below $16,700 without losing on the car (apparently this is what they need to break even). However, they said they would like to throw in things to try and make up for the difference in the price I want and the price they want. What sort of things could they throw in besides oil changes to make up for $500 or so in price?

Is this a good idea, or should I just bag it and move on?

Thanks again,

AS

I would have them throw in the Monsoon Car Mats and cargo liner and as a real kicker, have them install the Hitch Receiver to tow your boat or load the bikes on. Enjoy!

Fell through by automan227

the deal on the passat I listed above fell through for various reasons that I'd rather not bring up.

In any case, I have found at another local dealer a 2000 GLX With all the goodies (no 4Motion) with 43,000 miles for a starting price of $13,995 with no negotiations. The car is an automatic and certified.

Is this a decent deal and how much lower should I be able to go?

Thanks for the help,
