Owned a W8 for approx. 18 months and 22,000 miles. Only things I would do differently are: 1) LEASE it - depreciation is going to hit W8 hard for several reasons. 2) Buy the Sport Package - I chose not to wait and it was not available. The car is a pleasure to drive. - Ray Happy motoring . . . |

Just purchased a new, "punched" 03 Passat GLX 4Mo wagon from Bob Lewis VW in San Jose, CA for $26,950. That's $6,280 off MSRP, basically 20% less than list, or one year's depreciation. If you can find one with a color acceptable to you, I'd say go for the '03. The only difference between the years is that the '04 has a new wheel style. My wife likes the '03 wheel better, anyway. Don't get a cd changer--they're not that reliable. Get an iPod and connect kit. No more changing disk magazines in the trunk.

| My wife and I both have Toyota Camry's mine '96 (103k mi) and hers '99 (50k mi). We have had zero problems with these cars. Been told that Passats are great. Not in a big rush to buy but am curious what prices you folks have seen. Edmunds says that the TMV for this vehicle would be $29,154 (is TMV before taxes?). Very pricey but the GLX is loaded. Thanks for your help. Regards,Jim | |

Hey all -- I'm a first time poster on the Passat board, but I've spent hours and hours reading Town Hall threads, and have benefited greatly from all of them including this one, so I thought I'd share the details of my purchase tonight. Bought an '03 Passat GLX wagon 5AT with ESP, silverstone gray over black, for $24,995. MSRP was 31,480. Did fine on the trade of a '97 Honda CR-V with 48,500 miles, but had to plow through two rounds of dealer blarney over how it was worth lots less than the $7,300 we ultimately got for it. Buying experience on the whole was better than average, but I'd attribute that largely to the fact that it's an '03 that the dealer clearly had to sell. We were in and out in about 2 1/2 hours and were IMHO BS'd just a little here and there along the way. I'm told that the dealer here has at least 4 more '03 GLX wagons in stock -- 3 in reflex siler with 4MO, and 1 in black with 4MO. Thanks to all for the great info on this thread -- Mark |

So far my best price on a 2004 GLS w/leather package is Edmunds at $25,130. Invoice is $24,397. I plan on financing part of the purchase cost. Two questions. What could I realistically expect to get the dealer down to for purchase? What interest rate would I expect to pay? Thanks. |

| There appear to be no incentives offered at this time by VW. Will that change? When? Any feedback is appreciated. | |
|
VW has no plans to incentivize. It was reported in yesterday's paper in Toronto (the Globe and Mail). They want VW to move upscale and want to protect brand equity as much as possible which shows (at least on this side of the Border) in the residual values. There is also a story in the Globe and Mail today about how incentives are actually resulting in a DECREASE in sales for the Big 3 in the U.S. If you are buying VW Passat, you are buying for handling, styling, quality and prestige of driving a car that is more unique and not often seen, hence the lack of incentives and price point. |

| Bought a 04 Wagon GLX 4Motion here in California just before Christmas. Shopped around a bit, and ended buying at 300 over invoice. I received that offer from multiple dealers, even though sometimes I had to ask first. So far I'm very pleased with the driving experience, even though we have only 500miles on it. Will be doing some more serious driving, incl. snow soon! | |
| Which dealership did you get it from? Just curious. I have a leased 03 GLS I got from Hall and wondering which dealership cut their price that much. | |

We did our deal at Boucher VW, on 108th Street in Franklin. We picked up the car tonight and I saw two or three 03 GLX's sitting around back. We also had a few discussions with EVS, and I think we could have come close to invoice on an '04 had we gone that route. Really like the car by the way -- quiet, good power, and way more cush than the CR-V we traded. Hoping we don't have reliability issues, but if we do I'll be posting them. |
