Differences Between 2001.5 and 2002 Passat by vikingfan2

I've been researching purchasing a New Passat, but I can't decide between 2001.5/2002. I know I can get a better price on 2001.5, but want to do more research. Can someone please post what the differences are (however small or cosmetic) between the 2001.5 and 2002 Passats. Thanks. Much appreciated.

I am thinking of buying a 2001 GLS 4cyl turbo manual Passat with leather, Monsoon stereo, luxury package, and Homelink with 7K miles. The owner will take 22K. It seems like a good deal - what do you think? Also, any special problems that happen to new Passats that I should be aware of? Thanks.

2001.5 vs. 2002 VW Passat by Car_man HOST

Vikingfan2, the biggest difference between the 2001.5 and the 2002 Volkswagen Passat is the warranty. For the 2002 model year, all new Volkswagen vehicles will come standard with an increased four-year/50,000 mile (whichever occurs first) bumper-to- bumper warranty, up from two years/24,000 miles. The warranty covers wear- and-tear items and adjustments during the initial 12 months or 12,000 miles of ownership. In addition, Volkswagen will offer a fully transferable limited powertrain warranty that covers five years or 60,000 miles (previously 10 years/100,000 miles, but transferable only from the original retail owner to a family member). The new warranty is a big improvement over the old one. The only down side to the new coverage is that it no longer includes free scheduled maintenance.

Hi pomchi

Regarding the last 8 digits of the VIN, if the first character of those last 8 digits is a "1", then your car is officially a 2001 model (or 2001.5). If that character is a "2", then you have a 2002 model.

CD Player Standard by gkj1

A dealership we have been speaking with said that VW is increasing the price of those 2002 Passats that have the CD player standard (they said the price increase is approx. $300). Is this true?? (Why all the discussion then about having the CD player "standard" if there is a price increase?) Also, have more dealerships now been receiving 2002 Passats with CD player standard?

I was curious what the most popular Passat colors are besides Reflex Silver and does the color affect the resale value or the ability to sell the car?

I live on the north side of Chicago, and the current joke/contest with my friends and I is to see how many new SILVER Civics and Jettas we can count on one block. It's seldom less than six, seriously. It's so stupid. I mean, silver is 'hot' now, but what about at trade-in time? Ever noticed how many 92-96 hunter green with tan interior cars are on used car lots right now? And nobody wants them now, but that was the hot combo back then.

It amazes me that anyone would want to spend $20-30k on a car they can't even find in the parking lot at the supermarket. Is anyone here going to be excommunicated at work or the country club if their car isn't silver? Everyone has a silver Passat, get a blue one, or burgundy, seriously. Or maybe predict what's gonna be hot in five years when it's traded in.
