I purchased the allroad with factory GPS and have been using it since the end of December. There are 9 maps that cover the entire US with each having a rather broad area. For example, I have the South Central USA. It icludes all of Texas excluding the El Paso area, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, and the Southwest corner of Tennessee. The unit that takes the CDs is located in the cargo area on the left side behind a panel. It's the same area where the optional CD Changer would be located. Both can share the same area. One CD of the purchaser's choice is included with the system. I have heard that additional CDs are about $150....too expensive.   There are 2 distinct camps on the allroad GPS. One group really prefers the map based systems and the other likes the allroad system. I actually prefer the unobtrusive allroad GPS to the others. The display appears discreetly in the area where you normally have the trip computer, etc. It shows arrows the indicate either straight ahead, left, or right turns. The names of the streets are shown below. There is a female voice that informs you of turns, etc. We have tried to get it lost and it has never failed. If you do not take a suggested turn, the system automatically recalculates a new route. The only disadvantage that I can see is that the controls of the GPS take the space of the console beverage cup holder. It would also be nice if one CD/DVD would cover the entire US.   I have used the Hertz neverlost that is map based. Even though there are some advantages to having maps, I still prefer the allroad system.

Anyone bought an allroad in the last few weeks? What did you pay? I am looking to order in the next day or so. Btw, I am in the Bay Area.     Thanks,       Paul

I just bought one a week ago Saturday. The dealer gave me a $1,500 discount off of MSRP. They are doing better in other parts of the country, but here both dealers in our metro area are owned by the same people. This obviously restricts competition and one's ability to negotiate much of a discount. Still, I'm a very happy camper as the car is awesome.

The header on this board shows the latest post as Jun 12, 2001 at 04:58 PM, however the last post shown when scrolled down is Mar 19, 2001 (08:16 pm and there is no next 20 messages to click on. Problem?

It's possible someone posted a message here..., then deleted it. Also, if a host adds information to the Additional Resources, or edits the title area above, that will also cause the message information to update itself.   If you found this discussion near the top of the list, it's likely that any one of those things may have happened. I am considering either an Audi Allroad or a Volvo XC both loaded with all options except navigation. I was wondering what was the final price you were able to negotiate? I am trying to find the floor before I begin to negotiate. When do the 2002's come out? I'm hoping I might pickup a 2001 at a good price just before the next model year is available.   Thanks

Why should I choose an Audi Allroad over a Volvo XC? Is the extra money for an Audi worth it? I'm trying to get as much info pro and con before I make a purchase.

If you compare the interiors of the two cars I think you will find the allroad's to be quite a bit nicer - look at the details. The allroad is definitely quicker and handles better. It has the adjustable suspension if you ever venture offroad or require extra clearance for any other reason. It has four years of maintenance included - everything except tires. It's also very unique - you'll get lots of stares and compliments.   I suggest taking them both for extended test drives - preferably back-to-back - and think about what's important to you. My allroad has 4,000 miles and I couldn't be happier.

which has more room for kids stuff, my wife likes the volvo safty stuff, like built in jump seats, but it could use more oomph. what about price? she also likes the regular volvo, but which would have better resale, what's the market moving toward>?

There is no reason for it to burn 50% more fuel on the high way than an A4 avant with 1.8T. Yes, the car is nearly 50% heavier and the engine is 50% bigger, but on the high way the primary drag is air resistance. Any owner with first hand experience?
