Hey,
I just bought a 2004 A6 wagon with 12,000 miles. Now have 15,000. MPG (mostly Atlanta I-285) is about 20.5. Question; at 70 mph, the engine rpm is 2700. I asked the Audi service rep what it should be and he said "2000 to 2200 rpm". He said he would have to check the torque converter activation while driving at 70 mph to see if there is a problem. Has anybody encountered this? What should the rpm be at 70 mph?

I have a 2002 A6 Avant (wagon). I bought it with 24K in November 2004 and now have 35K (August 2005). Around town I average 18.5-20 miles per gallon. On the open road, at 70 miles per hour, I get 21-23 miles per gallon. And yes, even though the car has a 5 speed automatic, I run somewhere around 2600 rpm at 70 miles per hour.

Hi, I also just brought a 1997 Audi A6 Quattro at $6600. But it have 136000 miles on it.All equipment is working fine, but need your professional advices on some issues......
1) Is the A6 running on timing belt or chains?
2) Where can I replace the transmission fluid?
3) I brought an uncut key from E-bay, where to get the key duplicated?
4) my RPM read 3500rpm at 65MPH, is it normal?
Thanks!!!

There is no way to check the transmission fluid on these cars without putting them up on a lift. Most shops CANNOT handle the transmission fluid change, due to the unusual way the trans cooling is set up. I once had my 1996 A6's transmission destroyed due to underfilling of the fluid by an incompetent shop. Be sure to find a shop with extensive Audi experience, or it might even be worth going to a dealer. Far better to just leave it alone than to take it to any old place for a fluid change. 3500 rpm
65 is normal. I have had four Audis & have driven them very hard for hundreds of thousands of miles. They are good value for the money. Good luck with yours.

Looking for input on selling price (private party) for my 2000 A6 wagon. Here's the list of options:
Navigation
Heated seats/leather interior
Parktronic
Xenons
Cd changer/Bose stereo
Sunroof
Rear 3rd seat
Front/side airbags
Exterior has a couple minor scratches, interior is in very nice condition.
Has 52K miles
Lightly used (single owner, not family car), mix of city and longer road trips
Oregon car.
Thoughts??
Thanks!
(I've ordered another car already from a dealer out of the area)

You might want to try this link:
Edmunds TMV Used Car Appraiser
That should give you a good idea of what the vehicle is selling for in your area.

Any ideas as to how to replace the "third eye" brake light? Do you access this from the outside or inside? Any tips?
Thanks

Victor77 is absolutely right. There is no dipstick on the Audi transmission. Audi claims the fluid is "lifetime" and doesn't need to be changed. My experienced independent Audi shop says change every 50,000 miles. Also, be sure to .use the special "petrosin" transmission fluid, about $12/qt., you'll need 6 quarts, and a new Audi transmission gasket kit, about $27.00 from some of the internet Audi parts places. Bringing this car, for any reason, even a simple oil change, to a non-Audi experienced shop could mean real disaster for you and your pocketbook.
#255 of 301 XM Radio Antenna Install & Vehicle Update

Is the antenna on the top of the Avant easy to remove so I can feed the XM antenna cable through the roof? I cannot find how to remove it. There seems to be a little slot that I assume does something. Any help would be appreciated.
2001 A6 Avant with 75K - purchase Jan 05 with 48K for about $20K. Car has been great other than frozen caliper($600) - bent wheel($125) - sticky windows($0 for lube but will replace guides for $300 both fronts) - Get 23mpg in mix driving - 24+ on hway at >75. Love the car.
#256 of 301 '98 A6 Wagon - electrical problems
by bycenter

has anyone NOT been able to unlock their Audi? All of a sudden I can't get the
programmed key or the actual key to unlock the car on the driver's side. After several tries, I got the passenger side open, but all of the windows went down too.
Is this a problem with my entire electrical system?? Or an isolated lock issue?
I'm afraid of the expense in fixing this - Any idea what fixing this will cost? Is it worth it?
