While it's not mine, I wanted to pass along the sale of another PT. My mother-in-law traded her 2002 PT Touring Edition for an inferno red 2004 PT Cruiser GT this afternoon. While she loved her old PT, she wished she had leather, sunroof, bigger wheels and more power. Now she has it. Between our 2 Chrysler vans and her 2 PT Cruisers, we have bought 4 Chryslers in the last 2-1/2 years. We ought to be Chrysler's favorite customers by now!

Any word on how your mother-in-law did on her trade-in of the 02? I was wondering about how well the PTs hold their value since their demand has subsided somewhat since the introduction.

She got $12k for her 2002 Touring Edition. It had no leather and no sunroof. It had automatic, chrome wheels and upgraded stereo, but that's about it. It was real low on miles, though. She paid about $2500 under MSRP on the 2004 GT. I think she did pretty well.

has anyone had problems with their air conditioning? I recently bought a 2002 PT Cruiser Limited Edition. I love the car and the way it drives...5 speed is great...mileage not so good. However the air conditioner has quit. Had it in the shop 10 days after I bought the car and it broke while i was in las vegas at 112 degrees. Drove all the way home with no air. They recharged it and drove for another two weeks, and it started screaming while returning from Phoenix at 115 degrees. New compresser and dryer installed on a friday...quit cooling on Tuesday. Recharged...on a Wednesday, drove to Yuma (110 degrees) and it worked fine. The next day...no air. Went to the dealer there and they diagnosed the problem as needing new lines and something else...called my dealer and got him to order the parts the Yuma dealer determined were needed. They took the car in yesterday and are waiting for parts. Luckily they gave me a rental car....I asked the guy in Yuma if he could just recharge the system to get me home, and he said the lines had holes. The recharge wouldn't last a half hour. Do I have a mechanic problem or a lemon...or a fluke? Anyone else had any air conditioning problems?

It's possible that if your compressor malfunctioned (or too much freon was added) and caused too much pressure in the AC system, your lines would literally explode, thus explaining the screaming noise your heard and the holes in your lines. I would say your AC problems are a fluke. Good luck!

I'm no mechanic, but it sounds as though you have a faulty check valve. I had a 1993 Caravan that did this in 1996--kept quitting for no apparent reason, until they found the bad valve. Good luck.

Miles, that is.
I turned 5000 this past Friday night since purchasing on July 9. The only problem so far: My 65lb. shepard/akita can't fit in the back without putting down the back seat and thus getting her white hair all over my grey leather/suede interior. I also wished for a tighter turning circle in the beginning, but have gotten use to the fact that it takes more space to make a U turn than my Jetta did.
Mileage has increased to about 23mpg since getting the car, so I have no complaints there. No problems to report so far either. Glad I took a chance on Chrysler and American cars in general, I am happy with my selection.

That's great to hear. As I have posted in the past, between me (and my wife) and my mother-in-law, we have bought 4 Chryslers since the Spring of 2001. We have been happy with all 4.
#739 of 879 Synthetic Oil, Dex-Cool other ideas...

Has anybody had any problems with the Dex-Cool radiator fluid yet? I have been reading reports of problems with Dex-Cool fluid in 96+ model GM cars, and was wondering if that applied to the Cruiser (I have an '03).
Also, does anyone use synthetic oil in their PTs? I probably would not switch to synthetic until after my 3y/36,000 is up, but I could be convinced
So far my '03 PT has been great, no problems at all. I only have 8,000 miles, but they have been all trouble free. The reason I asked those two questions is that I would like to keep my PT forever *knock on wood*.
Forgot to add my gas mileage is like everyone else, its no bueno, usually 16/19 if I'm lucky.

I believe that the Chrysler specifies that only Chrysler coolant be used.
