Really, how tacky of VW. They offer BT in europe, so why not a real BT option here?

This is not the parrot kit. This is the new OEM kit that is just starting to come into dealers. The parrot kit doesn't have the telephone menu that requires programming.

I just mentioned this new kit. 1K0 051 437 is the part number for it. This is the new USA bluetooth kit that is made by Nokia or some other company. Some people just don't get that a new USA kit is coming out. You could also use the European part number 1Z0 035 729 but thats way too expensive. They also have an even more expensive and not as compatible premium kit which acts like a cell phone. Uses the rSAP profile on certain cell phones and works like an in car cell phone. It can only work in Europe though since it only runs on 900/1900 MHz which T-Mobile and AT&T don't use. The premium bluetooth does have HFP and some really interesting bluetooth profiles. Hope this helps.

My son has a 2007 GTI. One of the taillight bulbs burned out and he was charged over $30.00 to CHANGE THE BULB! I was apalled at the charge and want to know how to open the light and switch the bulb out. Additionally, he tried to check the air filter but couldn't find it. Any help for this young man?

That is funny, I just overheard a conversation at a service station this morning of someone asking to have a rear light bulb replaced. Quote was about 20 minutes and $35 or something like that, so it looks like that is not unusual.

Your son should crack open the Owner's Manual, which would have saved him some money and learn about basic maintenance.

Owner's manual always first, secondly, 'google', third is to buy, used if possible, Chiltern's manual. They always pay for themselves.

I think an 07 GTI is still under warranty, and defective light bulbs are a part of that.

Volkswagen Reliability? by ylz

Hello there. I'm buying a new car and I love the 2009 VW GTI but have heard some TERRIBLE things about Volks' reliability. People that have owned them have told me about all sorts of problems from transmissions to the brakes going. Will someone who has owned Volks please comment on this. Are they well made cars? Now I personally am NOT a fan of german cars just because they spend more time at the shop and have had great cars in hondas and nissans. But what do you guys knows about Volks or the GTI in particular? Anything would help. Thanks.

I bought the GTI in the first year it came out stateside. Furthermore, I've also had to put it into storage for a full year...

Neither of which is a good thing regarding cars. First year models tend to have more problems than later year models... and storing a car for long periods of time is never good on a car.

Yet, outside of a few recalls... I've only had two problems happen:

1. The engine inlet manifold broke (which didn't really effect my day to day driving, it just kept the 'check engine' light on).

2. A rock punctured my radiator. (I can't blame VW for that... but I can blame the gravel truck)

---

Just my two cents.

Volksagen has about twice as many problems as lexus. That's not much when you really think about it. At 298 problems per 100 vehicles or 3 problems per vehicle. Shrug. Lexus is at 145. The industry average is 216.
