#405 of 1769 Transition Problems by kitten78

Feb 26, 2001 (12:12 pm)

My boyfriend has a 2000 Accent and has been having nothing but problems with it. He is getting ready to take his car in for a third time in five months/5800 miles. The second time he took it in, they had to completely replace the transmission. We were out last night and the transmission started doing what it did last time, so he is taking it in again. What happens is when you accelerate, the RPM increases, but the speed does not. Has anyone else had this kind of transmission problems? If he has to take it in once more during the first year for the transmission, he's got a "lemon." It's just frustrating! I've owned Mazdas, Toyotas, and now an Oldsmobile without any serious problems, especially when it was new! I have had a 1998 Oldsmobile LSS for a little over a year now and have not had one problem with it, so I am starting to question the quality of Hyundai.

I know this is kind of stupid, but I have been following this board for a while now, and does it bother anyone else that the word Hyundai is spelled wrong in the topic title? Maybe we should all just drop this dead weight of old news and bad memories (as of late) and start a brand new thread - "Hyundai Accent 2"! We'd really be in the big league then, eh? Or maybe we should all just get together and start a new life . . . under the sea.

(I'm sorry, I am just bored and this is my lame attempt at humor. I am actually supposed to be working, so I better go.)

Hadn't noticed the mis-spelling ... One thing that bothers me regarding Hyundai products, is the fact that Hyundai automatic transmissions still seem to be prone to the same types of malfunctions that have been plaguing them for several years now ... if these problems are due to inherent design flaws in the unit, then you would think that these bugs would have been engineered out by now ... especially since it appears to be so common?

Thanks for mentioning the mis-spelling. It's been corrected.

#411 of 1769 2000 GS Hatchback manual by kinghyundai

Hi, I am looking to buy a 2000 GS Hatchback. My problem is, I won't be able to buy one till November of 2001. I don't think the dealers will still have the 2000 models anymore. Do anyone else think they will? I don't want to buy a used car, so what should I do? Someone please help! Thanks a lot! Carson

#412 of 1769 What I paid for my Accent... by aldag

I bought my 2000 Accent just a bit over a year ago now. I have the basic model equipped with AC and the manual shifter. At 12000 miles, everything is just fine at the moment. No trips back to the dealer for problems, so far. I drove off the lot, taxes, title, regie, and other charges included for $10700. I wonder if the prices have changed very much in a year?...

#413 of 1769 Question for bobcook 54 by malaz002

Mar 05, 2001 (9:56 am)

I'm not sure whether you're still reading this forum, bobcook54, but do you have any additional information yet regarding the sporty upgrade the Accent is scheduled to receive this spring or summer? I'm seriously considering the purchase of an Accent GS hatchback with option package 3, but would be tragically disappointed if I bought one now and they came out with a "GSi-like" version a few months later. I will be grateful for any information you, or anyone else :~), can provide!

Cheers.
