I am in the market for a vehicle for a teenage daughter. I spoke with a guy who has one for sale 1995 with 145k miles. He stated the Metro has the same motor as the Toyota Corolla. Replying to: vgriffin (Mar 17, 2006 7:35 pm) I very much doubt it - so far as I know, the Corolla is a 4 cylinder engine; in 1992, the Metro had a 3 cylinder 1000cc engine. It may have changed by 1995, but, so far as I know, the Metro was always built by Suzuki (another Japanese firm).   Stan

Replying to: vgriffin (Mar 17, 2006 7:35 pm) While I would recommend buying any Metro that had been treated well (even with a lot of miles)I agree that the claim may be far-fetched. In that year the Corolla and Geo Prizm were twins, not the Metro.I would call your local Chevy dealer and ask them to check out the claim.

Replying to: vgriffin (Mar 17, 2006 7:35 pm) Not the case. The guy has confused the Metro with the Prizm. People don't realize that all Geos were not made by the same manufacturer. I had someone try to tell me that my Tracker was really a Toyota RAV4 rebadged when I went to get a duplicate key. No, Suzuki I told her, she would not believe me. Corolla=Prizm, Metro=Swift, Tracker=Sidekick. FYI.

Replying to: toomany2count (Mar 07, 2006 12:57 pm) it's not that big of a deal to do the swap, drop the complete engine/trans ,ecm and harness out the bottom.The mounts are different they will need to be cut off and reattached, you will also need to swap the rad for the trans cooler or install a aftermarket trans cooler. Replying to: spurs1 (Mar 09, 2006 9:49 am) Does the high beam indicator come on when you switch from high to low beam ?1- check the harness at the bottom of the steering column coming from the dimmer switch seperate it and inspect for poor or burnt connections 2-check the feed coming from your headlamp switch 3-check for feed coming from the dimmer switch 4- a faulty park brake switch can cause the headlamps not to work but i don't think this is the problem is your case

Folks,   Need help making a decision. After 199K the old girl is going through oil like a drunk at Mardi Gras and I can't figure out where it's going. There's no smoke coming out the exhaust and no leaks under the car. Radiator doesn't have any foam in it. I figure the rings are just plain worn out.   Wife says I should just turn off the life support and let the car go to into the light. I'm debating on just putting in a new motor but don't have a clue if it would be worth doing. I'm pretty mechanically inept so does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this issue? Where could I find a decently priced replacement motor?
