#606 of 1867 japanese engine into a late model Metro
Dec 04, 2003 (5:23 pm)
Today my 1997 Geo Metro 1.0L was back on the road after a complete engine+5spd R&R. I was able to replace my 1997 motor with a G-10L from Japan. The only differences between the two engines, besides the obvious smog stuff, are the following; crank angle sensor & crankshaft timing gear, oil pump and oil pan, camshaft timing gear, timing belt tensioner pulley, and front engine mount.
I was able to move all of the listed parts from my blown 1997 motor to a used Japanese G-10L long block, and it worked! So if you need to overhaul a 1995 to 2001 Metro or Swift 1.0L, it can be done with a G-10L. For some reason 1.0L motors with the crank angle sensor are not available from the used Japanese engine suppliers.

I have a 1996 Geo Metro. The hood release cable snapped and I can't open the hood. Does anyone have a solution to share?
#608 of 1867 just got a metro!!

This past weekend I purchased a 1991 geo metro for my son who is 15. It will be his first car.
It is a 1.0 with auto and working air. 134,000 mile. I paid $500 for it. It is well maintained and needed nothing other than some fluid changes.
Question. Are there any geo metro forums out there beside edmunds?
Any input on where to get parts and what to look out for would be helpfull.

I'm a big metro fan, but info on the Metro here is basically zero. I think they will delete the name of the "metro" forum if I post it, but who knows, maybe they'll let it go?
just eliminate all the spaces...

#612 of 1867 Key stuck in ignition - '95 Metro
Feb 03, 2005 (2:30 am)
OK- It will turn the engine and idiot lights off but won't rotate
to Lock Position where you can take out the key, and the battery
keeps draining overnight.
Can any one suggest a manual with clear pictures/instructions or,
better yet, personal experience with a solution?
Thanks in advance...
#615 of 1867 96 metro with poor gas mileage
Feb 07, 2005 (10:08 pm)
i currently own a 96 metro lsi hachback, it is the 4cyl (1.3L) automatic with 188k on it and recently it has started getting some very poor mileage, im talking 25mpg and worse i got 200 mi to my last tank. it popped up the check eng light and my mechanic scanned it and it was showing high voltage numbers on the o2 sensors well we reset the computer and nothing has popped up since (no lights) but im down to 1/8 tank and ive only got 173 miles on it so im not ewven sure if its going to make 200mi this time, im getting ready to change the plugs in a desperate attempt to help my mileage, sensors and converters are high $$ for this car so i really cant afford to play guess the sensor 90-300.00 a pop anybody here had any similar problems ??? i need a solution asap !! or else theres gong to be fire-engine red metro just plain ON FIRE!! cuz its pissing me off, what i cant get is that it runs excellent, still has good power and doesnt smoke or use oil, the only thin thats broken on it is the rear defroster which works when it wants to.
