Replying to: subie956 (Jun 23, 2009 5:52 am) First, your tires. How long have they been on the car in miles? Have they been rotated correctly every 6-8000 miles? Move the right and left front tires on the car to the opposite side and see if the pull moves with the tire change? Then it's time to start checking alignment if the tires aren't causing the problem with a bad belt in one causing a lead. The alignment needs to be spot on to the exact recommended setting. You don't want one of the fast food places where they determine the setting is within specs therefore they don't put it to the ideal. You're paying to align and you expect a correct, full alignment. A good shop should check the parts in the steering and suspension. In some salty areas a few H-bodies have had a toe-in adjustable link on the _rear_ suspension break, but people usually find the car feeling floppy over bumps because of the lack of control on the toe-in for the rear. |

Replying to: imidazol97 (Jun 23, 2009 6:08 am) I tried removing the lubricants from the belt with a coarse brush, then windex and bounty, while the engine was idling. Actually it eliminated the noise for a while, but not for long and then it came back only worse. Then, one morning I started the engine and while starting it made some snapping sounds. I drove straight to my mechanic and on the way there the engine started making continuous rattling noise, like the belt fibers were breaking and beating around. However, when I got to the shop and we removed the belt, it looked absolutely perfect, without any cracks or excessive wear. Anyway, we replaced it and since then the engine runs smoothly without any noise. Moreover, I just made two round trips to Cape Cod (1200 miles totally) in a week recently and noticed that my gas-mileage improved significantly. If previously it was making 18-19 highway mpg, now it makes 27-28 mpg. Can it be related to a new belt? |

I'm trying to replace the outer boot on a 90 bonneville but it's not obvious to me how to get the joint separated from the axle so I can slide the new boot on. I was expecting to see some sort of clip but I don't see one. I've read and seen on the internet that some joints are removed from the axle by whacking it with a hammer in order to overcome a "circlip" . Is that what I must do.....force the joint from the axle? Or is there a snap clip some where that I need to remove with snap ring pliers???? Thanks Jim |

Replying to: richard82 (May 18, 2008 6:43 am) The metallic rattling comes and goes. I had 2 or 3 "quiet" years, now the noise is back. In fact, it stops as soon as you start your A/C. It does not seem to harm the engine, the only problem that it gets on my nerves. It does not completely answer your question, but at least you can drive without too much worries. |

hello everybody, I need help getting po134 code for o2 sensor just replaced sensors for code po131 and po141 for heaters in o2 after 2weeks of replacing sensors car runs good no vacuum leaks that i could tell can anybody have any lead way to my problem. thanks it a 2000 bonneville ssei |

have a 96 bonneville w/ a 98 park avenue 3800. changed ignition module, coil packs, spark plugs, wires, both o2 sensors, fuel filter, air filter, fuel rail, pressure reg, injectors, still stalling getting 0171 system adaptive fuel too lean wtf is wrong with this thing please please help...running out of money!!!

Replying to: painter7978 (Oct 22, 2009 7:47 pm) Have the symptoms been there since the replacement? Did you change the computer and PROM in the computer--or at least the PROM? Feeling the type of stalling and getting more conditions about when it stalls would help. How many miles on the car? On the motor? P071 may be due to MAF, vacuum leaks, and some other things. The MAF sensor can be cleaned with spray after taking it off-two screws, security type screws. Fuel pump problem, low pressure after warming up. Crankshaft position sensors do funny things. The intake screen ont he end of the throttle body should be there. Is it? That is the honeycomb screen that straightens the airflow before the MAF sensor. Try spraying carb cleaner around all the hoses and the edge of the upper intake. Some have found hoses dry rotted or split near the ends especially in areas that get some gas fumes or high heat. Remove and clean the EGR valve. Other mentions have been the lower seals on fuel injectors age due to the heat and need replacement--cheap and easy. But diagnosis is important, otherwise you're just throwing money at the problem. |
