#3965 of 5207 Want to add more power to my 1996 Civic
Jun 29, 2005 (11:09 pm)
I own a 1996 4 door Honda Civic with only a 1.5 liter engine. Am not sure but I think it is a B15 engine. I am getting great mileage from this car but sadly it lacks power. Can someone give me suggestions (basic and advanced) as to how I can increase the power (hp and torque) of my car short of changing the engine? Can anyone suggest some reference material I can read on for my problem?

Does anyone know how to access the front turner indicator bulb?
There should be instructions on changing the bulbs in your Owners Manual.

UPDATE: I tracked the problem down (which an A/C repair shop confirmed for $70) to a thermal switch mounted on the compressor inline with the +12 to the compressor clutch. I'm guessing this thermal switch prevents the clutch from engaging in really cold weather.
HOWEVER, I can't find the part anywhere. WOuld anyone know of a good A/C parts place for Honda Civics (2001)?

How much did it cost for your new manifold, etc.? My girlfriend seems to be having similar problems. Her engine light came on, just had the O2 sensor replaced today and they told her that he exhaust manifold was cracked and needed to be replaced becuase otherwise the O2 sensor would go bad again.
She has the same car as you, same year.
Sorry I don't have any info for you, but hopefully you can help us avoid similar problems to yours.

I have a 2004 DX and don't have specs with me, but offer the following til you get better info. I tend to do most by engine noise, which works well unless there is so much traffic noise that the engine is hard to hear. If shifting up while accelerating, go from 3 to 4 at 39 mph, if shifting up and just cruising, shift at 33 mph. For fifth gear shift to accelerate at 51, to cruise at 48-9. Good luck.

The new manifold/cat converter, etc., was replaced free of charge because it was still under emissions warranty (less than 80,000 miles). Once you hit the 80,000 mile mark, the emissions system is no longer under warranty.
Good news re: recent problems: there was damage/wear on a wiring harness.
The area had worn through causing things to short out. It was repaired Wed. Everything appears to be working again so far. I haven't done any highway or long distance driving yet which would be a better test.

I had this temp-to-the-top problem on my 1985 Civic Wagon (127,000 mi). Turne out it had a bad head gasket. Just have your engine checked for a leaking head gasket. It's a very sensitive chemical test for CO in the coolant --exhaust fumes leak through into the coolant. With the test kit this test is easy-to-do; ask for it to be checked at a repair shop. After repair it now runs great with temp guage at 1/2 to 2/3. I love this Honda!

you might try majestic honda's web-site as the exploded sub-system diagrams are excellent::
or you might try your closest dealership.
