Oh, not that far north - just the back roads just north of the Interstate. Craters of the Moon is the first big attraction and if you have time you could flip up to Sun Valley and Stanley and then back down. Otherwise you can go back down to I-84 at Mountain Home. It's scenic but not direct. Maybe play it by ear and weather.

I'm hoping the seepage grows slowly since I'm still a few years away from the timing belt change (by miles that is ). Maybe I'll get an estimate from you and fly you back down to do the job - I have plenty of Alaska Air miles, lol.

I'll look into the scenic Idaho routes. I was thinking you meant north of I-90....

As far as the car goes, that might work out if it is a couple years from now. We are planning to buy another Subaru (new or close to it) in the fall of 2011, so I will likely be coming down to pick one up anyway. I could drive over to Boise before headed back north. Assuming no hitches, it is a day job at best and you are looking at under $500 in parts, depending on what all you replace while we are in there. But, as with the upcoming trip... will definitely have to play it by ear.

well, most of my experience is with elementary school students, but I'm sure your daughter is extremely gifted and we can work something out ... and, of course, I have all that experience with my gifted children/grandchildren as they were toddlers ...

What day would you likely be in South Bend? I will be doing "some" reading tutoring in the mornings for 3 weeks beginning in the 2nd week of June. If you're serious about stopping, I'll start trying to think of something not too far off your highway that could be kid/adult friendly. (We're about 90 miles east of Chicago - and if there were any other route I could suggest to you that didn't go THROUGH Chicago, I would!)

I know! All roads lead to Chicago! It is terribly frustrating. We went around Chicago, for the most part, headed to PA, but we visited some friends in Madison, so it was difficult to accomplish and added many miles to the trip. If we had not needed to stay on such a tight schedule, I would have been tempted to go over the UP and cross into NY via a quick jaunt through Ontario. As it was....

Like I mentioned, we will cross through Indiana on Monday, 6/8. I get back into Erie on 6/6, and my son's fifth birthday is on 6/7, so we will likely take it easy the first part of the day on Sunday rather than hit the road first thing in the morning. If we do that, we will camp somewhere in Ohio Sunday night. That would put us through South Bend around noon, perhaps late morning, on Monday.

We always like green spaces; good exercise and my son tends to have less ways to get in trouble.

OK, I'll put my "thinking cap" on because we have some nice areas for family outings. I'll also keep in mind that you're on a schedule! ...

Security light blinking by lilbluewgn02

I just got a new battery this morning after the old one kicked the bucket. Works fine except the security light blinks fast when the engine is off, whether the system is armed or not. Any ideas? I've gotten new batteries in the past and this is the first occurrence of this phenomenon

I think the fast blink means it's in Valet mode. Last month someone told me how to switch back and forth between armed and valet, but then I got the alarm disabled by moving a dip switch and promptly forgot the instructions.

I think you hold the flashing button down for 3 seconds while the door is open to get the light to blink in armed mode. My alarm instruction manual is vague on the subject.

Serge, Steve may be on to something here. I would check your owners manual. There may be some instructions there as to how to change that.

Steve, you were right...held it for 3-4 seconds and te blinking is gone. Thanks.
Here are photos of the wagon from this afternoon with its so-far only mod

Got the wheels on NASIOC; they are 1998 2.5RS wheels which came with Dunlop SP Sport 5000 tires in great shape. I put those on the OEMS and put my RE960 AS tires on the gold wheels. Next up, APS 3" TBE system.

Mike, what is your advice on tightening up the suspension a bit, not for tracking but just better handling? Let me know when you get a chance.
