There's a ~2000 red Miata and the owner is asking ~$11k for it. TMV is close to $7k. Reports are that it's spiffy, but I haven't seen it.

Replying to: steve_ (May 12, 2009 10:45 am) I thought heated seats only started being offered for model year 2007 on Miatas. Loaded up 2006 GTs do not have that. And the new green doesn't do it for me. Definitely not BRG. $11k is OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced for a 2000 model. My brother was close to buying a 2006 GT for under $14k, 6 years newer for not a lot more money. |

All the markers on this map, save for Portland, OR (which is a mid-day visit with a friend), represents an overnight stop. It makes for a 12-day trip, which seems reasonable given the short driving days we have to endure in order to keep our children (and, by extension, ourselves) sane. I decided to take a full two weeks off from work, so we have a total of 14 days in case of delays. We will be camping most, if not all, nights on the way back up. Great for the pocket book but not for the back! I would certainly be happy to do a meet & greet when we pass through your area. I think you are near Boise, right? If so, we plan to stop in that area for an overnight, likely on 6/11 if all goes on schedule.

I think the Interstate is pretty scenic along there but it's more like tundra country and some people don't care for it. If you go north a bit, you get more of the Sawtooth mountain flavor near Sun Valley. But it's lots curvier and slower. Juice, I've studied the online instructions about adding heated seats to Miatas and I think I'd be game for trying that. Couldn't be much worse than replacing a soft top eh? I changed the oil and filters in the Outback a couple of days ago. The front seal doesn't seem any worse, but the "endcaps" on the boxer are now weeping. (Don't tell Wes |

I suspect we will make a short day of Sunday rather than actually leaving from PA on Monday morning with the hope of reaching Madison by evening. I have driven through Chicago enough times to know what a ridiculous cluster that is. Only at 0300 have I made it through there with minimal disruption. On our way to PA, we took small state roads to avoid the area, but that option introduces its own set of problems and delays. So, South Bend is approximately mid-Indiana, so if we travel across part of Ohio, we would likely hit that area around lunch-time on Monday. We like to take a couple hours' break from driving mid-day in order to give the kids some run-around time.

Replying to: steve_ (May 15, 2009 7:42 am) We typically travel through northern Idaho (I-90 route) when going east-west (and it is gorgeous!), but I think my wife would very much like to run through the Yellowstone area since she has yet to see it. We are trying to visit some friends/family on our way back north, but we do need to keep our route fairly direct. We like to take minor detours off the main roads when possible, but combining the route through Yellowstone with a route that took us through northern Idaho would be a bit much. Since this is our third such trip like this as a couple, I am trying to actually plan this thing out like my wife would do it rather than how I would. I need to score all the points I can muster.... Sounds like you are getting close to seal/gasket replacement time! I did that twice on my '96 Outback.... once at 144K and again at 196K, when I also replaced the head gaskets. Doing so is a pretty simple job - not much more complicated than replacing the timing belt.
