That would have been slow and unreliable.

The hole where Mario sits is strategically sized - a quarter fits in there perfectly.

To race you can go up to 5 ounces, so we'll insert quarters until it's up to the limit, then race it.

I put the weight in the center, but I guess high and far back would have been better?

Oh well.

Advice from someone beaten senseless as a Cub Scout, then again as a Cub Scout father:

1) Make sure you are at maximum weight

2) Low and flat-- small frontal area

3) Graphite for the wheels/axles

4) Make sure wheels are aligned. Most Boy Scout stores even sell a little alignment kit. If you push it on the floor and it doesn't track exactly straight, you'll have drag on the track. Once it's aligned, do not touch or put pressure on the wheels, until you are ready to race..

We had fun making our car... but, that's about it..

I may get the graphite but I think I'll avoid going nuts on this and just leave it as a fun activity.

I'll be happy if the car gets attention from the other kids and people compliment my son on his car.

Well, if you really want to win,

Then remove Mario's head, fill it with lead, get a good alignment with 0 degrees of toe, 0 degrees of caster, lube those axles. Maybe drill out the wheels to make them lighter for quicker acceleration. You can then put more weight in Mario's head. . .

Oh, forget it. Just have fun!

Good luck Juice

I may win the speed competition but lose the design competition if I remove his head.

Someone should kludge the camera from a cat cam onto one of those cars and take pics going down the ramp.

Of course he wants to win...it's his nature! (get a sharp wire cutter and go to work on the competition's axles...a snip here, a snip there...you didn't hear it from me!)
