Sweet! Can't wait to read about your ownership impressions once you get it broken in.

Hey Bob,

Congrats on your new ride. Just make sure you take out time to wash it

Congrats, but that was just a tease. Need more meat on the driving impressions!!! I was looking to you to be a good source of how the old 2.5T and this model compared.
I had my test drive of the WRB today and posted about it on the WRX forum. It lacked a bit of the edge the 04 has, replacing it with a more refined feel in every area - ride, handling, shifting. Turbo lag is surely there, but much less of that rubber band effect that the 2.0 has. A real plus is that it was very sedate being driven in grandma mode on the residential streets.

and this is a bad thing? If you want an all out hard riding track car, look at the EVO.

You misunderstood me Mike, I consider them all good things, and I was actually very impressed by its level of refinement. I had wondered if it would be more STi like in its driving manners given the performance changes, but it was certainly not. My only STi experience was from driving my neighbour's 05 and I found that hard to drive sedately and smoothly in dense city traffic, and I wouldn't want it for a daily driver.
BTW, do you know if the rally armour front skid plate for my 02 WRX will fit the new model??

Oh you'll get them, just let me pile on some miles. I'm taking it easy (keeping it under 4K rpm) until it's broken in. As of this posting I've only got about 110 miles on it, of which I may have put on 60 or so. The dealer put on 50 or so miles, as they had to get it from another dealer in Northern Virginia.

I will say this: The engine seems to be a bit more flexible than the old one. The '06 model didn't like being in 5th gear below 50 mph unless the road was flat. The new one seems a bit happier in 5th down even as low as around 40 mph. That makes for easier driving, and hopefully maybe even better gas mileage.

OK, now do I get to congratulate you on the new ride?

Very nice Bob. I'm a bit jealous as I am one of the few who actually really like the new WRX hatch. That and the fact Subaru seems to have made them quite the little rocket ship.

Enjoy!

Thanks. Actually most Impreza buyers prefer the 5-door, as it is outselling the 4-door model, or at least doing much better than SOA had originally expected.
