99 or 00 911 C4 6MT w/40-50k miles

or

08 G8 GT (New)

Mostly to use as a weekend car, some trips up to the mountains etc.

They are roughly the same price, but vastly different cars. Keep in mind my LGT will be daily driver, and the Armada will be around for towing and passenger duty if need be.

Vastly different, no doubt. I'd go with the G8 GT because you get a warranty and parts are cheaper than the 911's.

Though that boxer 6 is nice...

any 911 is great- the 996 became much more refined and comfortable, and many will say lost a bit of its edge. Main issue is with the rear main seal leaking requiring pulling the whole engine and replacing the seal- up to $10k to do!

Also, if used as a weekend getaway car luggage space is atrocious.

Might want to look at something a little newer, I think it was '02 that the 996 got the Varioram timing for a hp bump.

The good news is I've seen a lot of 996 911s on the market for very reasonable prices which may just improve even more as the next gen 911 (998) comes out this fall.

I'd say, as great as the new G8 is, owning a 911 is a piece of automotive history.

Are you comfortable in the 911?

C4s are sweeeet, but make sure you can live with the car first.

Since you have a practical daily, though...I vote 911 C4.

If it's just the 2 of you with a suitcase for the weekend, I would think the 911 would be a lot more fun, especially in the mountains with all the twists.

Then again, that's a "fun" response rather than an eduacted one.
