I was setting the timing on my Miata and they were running around all over the place.

I think they're taunting me.

Edit: steve - read here about how Timing is Everything on an NA Miata:

I have not checked in for a while... Life's at work has been crazy, including a lot of business travel.

I'm so pleased to see all the familiar faces here... juice, Bob, Brenda, Mark, Serge, Frank, Dave, Jeff, Lucien2-- hi to all! This is by far the most stable internet community in the world! On most forums, the crowd is changing 90% over each 1/2 year.

In Feb, hubby sold his WRX at 90K mi for an amazingly good price of $16K. He bought new 2008 X Premium Forester in Dark Grey. With my 2.5X Forester 2006, and fond memories of my very first 2001 S Premium Forester, I think we're the most Forester'ed family on the planet.

G'day

Yes, the most stable Crew on the planet!

I have been eyeing off the new Forester with interest as well. We seem to have largely paased the need for seven seats and are coming back to normal car usage for me. Tempting to trade the Kluger and get a new Forester with a Luxury pack, probably in about 12 months time. However the surging petrol price is making it tempting to look at something more economical like a Prius. Not sure I coul; adpat though

Cheers

Graham

Hi Kate (and Graham!)!

Not so sure about being "stable," but perhaps more "senile," as we've all been here since the great flood.

Congrats to your hubby on the new Forester. Does he miss the the WRX's "friskiness?"

That was my concern - that he won't enjoy slower and bigger Forester... but he seems fine. Maybe because his WRX was automatic, and he never really had experienced that friskiness to full extent.

Although Subaru says 2..5X Premium has the same sound insulation and no special noise-decreasing treatment (as compared to 2.5X), we found that his 2008 Premium is definitely quieter on the highway (yes, tires and pressure in them -- all the same between 2 vehicles).

I wonder if alloy rims vs steel ones make all the difference in road noise?

It so happened that in Jan my company sent me on a business trip to my home country which I've left 20 yrs ago and never went back.

I stopped by my home town, and I was amazed and touched by how many people actually remembered me and really wanted to meet w/me after all those years... I wrote that part of my life off, essentially, but they didn't -- shame on me.

Even boyfriend from my high school dating 30 years ago showed up, totally unexpectedly (boy, I hope my husband does not read this forum ). At any rate, he looked sooooo much cuter when he was 23 than now at 53...

well, back to the topic - Subarus are very much respected over there, but awfully expensive, and many Foresters are still equipped with 2.0L engines...

Tire noise is my only real complaint about my WRX—and its really bad. The all-new '08 model is much better in that respect.

I didn't know you came from another country. Where are you from?

Technically speaking, that country does not exist any more, Comrade Bob... it collapsed in 1991. It was called the Soviet Union. What I visited in Jan was a replacement -- a somewhat discontented model that's now called Russian Federation. Same language, but very different economy and different set of values/attitudes in people.

My mother was a Swede though but she passed away early on, and I was raised in Moscow by my Russian father and grandma.
