Pope-mobile by ateixeira

Just saw the Pope go by. Had a nice view from my window, he drove on Pennsylvania Ave right out front.

More precisely, I should say I saw the Pope-mobile. Looked like a Benz ML-based one-off of some sort. Of course I'm up on the 10th floor so it's hard to say for sure.

Note this is not the one he was in, this was a newer model ML, from what I could see.

Hmm - interesting. According to a number of sources, there's no single popemobile. Typically during a papal visit, a domestically built popemobile is supplied for the duration. When JPII visited England, Land Rover supplied one and when he visited Canada, GMC supplied a modified Sierra which was also used when he visited Cuba.

The MB is the one used at the Vatican as well as a Fiat or two and VW presented B16 with a modified Phaeton limousine in 2006.

It's hard enough to even get a glance when he's crawling along very slowly, imagine in a Ferrari!

Brenda,

With all that's been happening lately, you can vent a bit here; it's perfectly understandable to fell bummed. One thing I learned from my folks when they were around and in the hospital - complaining means they're on the mend usually.

Hope things get better.

Wes - good luck with the job and the hours.

Mark
