Couldn't get in much yesterday, and I think I lost whatever I did manage to post. I think someone did feed the gerbil breakfast, though. -juice |

i used to drive the 12 passenger van to downtown houston during rush hour and the freeways are ALWAYS under construction ... when we'd start home we had one of those 5 lanes across within a short distance things and it was 'easier' when the traffic was stopped than when it was heavy ... i'm sure there were times my passengers just closed their eyes and prayed! we were talking the other day about how 2 of my daughters learned to drive on houston freeways and the youngest learned to drive here where this is only ONE controlled access highway at all in the city ... i think the older 2 had an advantage in that one ... |

13th and we're getting the remnants of Charlie up here starting today. Hope the flooding isn't too bad. To our friends in Florida: please brace yourselves or get outta there. Even though Subies have more ground clearance don't try to be a hero and drive over running or deep water. -juice |

I'll second that. It sounds like an interesting weekend ahead. It's amazing how people see a road covered in water, and still try to drive through only to get stuck. Mark |

Just remember, we all have alloy blocks, they're not going to be happy dipping in cold water when they're at full operating temps. At least the stock intake is fairly high, above the top of the bumper. -juice |

Replying to: bluesubie (Aug 13, 2004 5:05 am) 100F is not near extreme heat for Mobil1 5w30, even on a turbocharged car. It's especially true if the engine was cold! Something unusual caused your noise. If it never happens again while you own the vehicle and it runs fine, then this will just be one of those great mysteries you retell every so often to your car buddies over beers. But if it happens again, then I sure wouldn't blame your 10w30. btw that pump priming thing was WAY out there. the oil never left the pan! you don't hear any odd noises firing an engine after an oil change, why would you hear them after the vehicle sits. I prefer the answer "unknown" rather than selecting an answer that just doesn't fit. ~Colin |

I'm using 5W30. I'm not saying that 100F is too hot on the high end for 5W30. I was just thinking that the oil that was coating the engine was thinned out and drained into the pan, since the car hadn't been running for two days. I can do an oil change in less than two days, and I've never done one in 100 degree temps so I can't compare that. Did you happen to read my post on BITOG? You also might want to read the thread about an EVO shearing M1 10W30 down to a 20 weight. -Dennis |

| It's been a shaky time for the hamsters. I posted yesterday that it would be a roller coaster day, and that message disappeared. Sorry for the inconvenience. For an explanation of what's happening, please see Our Software! Your Questions Answered | |

actually I'm not sure what BITOG is, but on the subject of Evos just real quick, the stock car has hydralic lash adjusters just like a DOHC subaru, which are intolerant of non-stock viscosities because they work on fluid moving through an aperature at a known rate. someone was running M1 20w50 and noticed a lot of valvetrain noise... hmm! ~c |
