It is only a 10 min drive to city centre, on a bluff overlooking the entire city. The description cuts off the part about the 2 bedroom guest house. hasn't sold because most agents feel it's overpriced, and those are only Canadian $$, so multiply by about 75%.

All it needs is a mile-long circuit around the properly for hot laps.

If it sounded dry, it probably was very low on oil.
 
Nope, when I'm on trips I'm very anal about checking oil. I probably checked it three times during that week.
 
The 5W30 is thinner than 10W at 40C, as I posted above, so I think that all of the oil drained back into the oil pan. Yes, the chart in the manual doesn't account for synthetics. When the engine is cold, a conventional 5W30 is thicker than a sythetic 5W30.
 
I'm not 100% sure it was due to the 5W30, but it hasn't happened before and hasn't happened since. I think I'll email M1 and see what they say. I'll also post on BITOG and see what some of the experts say.

One of the BITOG experts. I'm still puzzled. Was this a fluke thing? I'll post Mobil's response when they reply.

Couldn't get in much yesterday, and I think I lost whatever I did manage to post.

i used to drive the 12 passenger van to downtown houston during rush hour and the freeways are ALWAYS under construction ... when we'd start home we had one of those 5 lanes across within a short distance things and it was 'easier' when the traffic was stopped than when it was heavy ... i'm sure there were times my passengers just closed their eyes and prayed!
 
we were talking the other day about how 2 of my daughters learned to drive on houston freeways and the youngest learned to drive here where this is only ONE controlled access highway at all in the city ... i think the older 2 had an advantage in that one ...

13th and we're getting the remnants of Charlie up here starting today. Hope the flooding isn't too bad.
 
To our friends in Florida: please brace yourselves or get outta there.
 
Even though Subies have more ground clearance don't try to be a hero and drive over running or deep water.

I'll second that. It sounds like an interesting weekend ahead.
 
It's amazing how people see a road covered in water, and still try to drive through only to get stuck.

Just remember, we all have alloy blocks, they're not going to be happy dipping in cold water when they're at full operating temps.
 
At least the stock intake is fairly high, above the top of the bumper.
