#1332 of 1950 2002 cougar finally by aussy

ok...after a week of hasseling with my dealership trying to get a 2002 cougar w/ 5 speed the way i want it...they finally complained to the regional mercury rep and got the "straight" story...the only 5 speeds produced in the initial manufactur of the 02 cougar was the XR edition....the rest of the first run was automatics....so...now i am being told that the 5 speeds are in the manufacturing pipe.....i have a new delivery date of 2 to 5 weeks with a guarantee of no more than 5 weeks......if one comes off the line configured the way i want it could be as little as 2 weeks....otherwise they have ordered me one in the pipe and it will be here in 5 weeks......btw....i did test drive the XR just to get a feel for the 5 speed....there is a world of difference...it is definately worth the wait to get the 5 speed...thankyou everyone for the advice

Aussy: 5 weeks is not so bad compared to the 18 weeks I waited for my '99 Cougar. In fact, that's how this group was dubbed the "Cougar Support Group", offering support for anxious Cougar enthusiast that were waiting for their cars to come in back in mid to late 1998 (correct me if I'm wrong, Badulah, Stageleft). In fact, I think there were some that waited even longer for their cats. Even if you have to wait 5 weeks, I think you'll find, as I did, that it was well worth the wait.

The warranty on my car runs out tomorrow on my Cougar's third birthday. I had my dealership give it a thorough checkup. They were awesome about fixing anything that was marginal or might cause me headaches in the near future. Having purchased a pretty early run Cougar, I've experienced several 'growing pains', but FMC has been very good, on the whole, about performing warranty work. My car is running perrrrfect right now. I hope it stays that way as I enter into my non-warranty period.

Does anyone know where I can get a fitted car cover for the Kitty. It would be for indoor (garage) use. I had one for my other car that was fitted and had a flannel lining on the inside that was nice, but it came with the car so I dont know where it came from. Gittin' time to put the Kitty up for the winter. Don't like to drive her in all the salt that we have up here (CNY) so we have a winter rat that we drive to keep the Kitty nice. Thanks

#1336 of 1950 Give us specifics on end-of-warranty work by burnsmr4

Hey, krnch,

Can you give us some specifics on what you had done? My car runs out of warranty in January. I doubt I'll reach the 36K mile limit before then.

I've got about 30K miles on my '99 Cougar V-6, and I've not had the 30K service done. I'm not keen on the $200 charge for what amounts to a bunch of filter changes.

What have some of you other folks been charged for this service? Did you take it somewhere other than a dealership? Do it yourself?

Thanks,
burnsmr4

Hey Aussy,

I to am in the process of buying a 2002 Cougar and I opted for the 5 speed manual. They to told me that I would have a hard time finding a manual with the V6-Sport right now due to a factory close down. Due to my selection, I had to order mine even though they may have some sports with the manual in about 2 to 4 weeks. I ordered a Black C2 Sport. Can't wait for it!!!

How much extra HP will that give you? And how much does it cost. I am planning on increasing the horse power to about 220 or so and I wanted to know what mods can get me there?

burnsmr2: I'll check the work order tonight and get back to you. I could make it up from memory, but I'm sure I'd leave out a bunch of stuff.
