| Anyone with a kitty in the San Francisco Bay Area - What do you think of the area L/M *service* depts (not the sales people)? My kitty will be coming in soon, and I'm trying to figure out whether to trust the Sunnyvale, Stevens Creek, or Stanford service dept to do future service. Any feedback would be appreciated. | |

I was thinking if I won the big lottery I would snatch up a cougar of some sort, basically make it into the best roadster out there, ok aside from those really really expensive ones... well if I won the really big lottery I could get acouple cougars Ok back to dealers, MINE SUCKS... oops was that too harsh.. nah |

| The only problem with a rag top Cat would be the weight. In order to chop the top, FMC would have to reinforce the frame and body to absorb all of the torque. This would really add a lot of weight to the Cat. | |

Yeah, that's the picture I have. Great looking convertible, IMO. Actually, with engineering what it is today, to chop the Cat and reinforce the chassis might only add a few hundred pounds. Nothing the S badging couldn't overcome with HP though ... Too bad that project has already been nixed, eh? My initial plan was to have the 99 I have now, then when the convertible Cat came out I already had permission from the other half to buy one! Then I hear they've scrapped the project, so I guess when it's paid off, I'll be looking for a supercharger. |

I've gotten good service at Sunnvale L-M, although they did leave a stray wire on the floor when they replaced my clutch interlock switch. They are very polite and responsive and, so far, have completed work when they've promised it. I'm going there again next week because the trim under my seat fell apart. It had apparently been broken before and then siliconed back together. |

I priced my car on Carsdirect.com and called up Rickles Lincoln Mercury in North Bergen with a quote. They had a car very close to the specs I priced (only the interior leather color was different, but I still liked it). I faxed over the quote from cardsirect and they agreed to match it even though it was below inventory. Another couple of dealers in the area wouldn't get anywhere close to the numbers. I picked up the car with no problems, and they gave me a call about a week later to make sure everything was ok. I highly recommend going to Rickles if you're in the area. As an added note, King Lincoln Mercury seemed reasonable also, but they didn't have the car I wanted on the lot. |

Today is day nine and I still don't know when I will get by Cat back. The dealer has had it since last Monday. I just got off the phone with the service department and they said that three parts are still on order and one is on backorder (called "D99"). They said the two parts were shipped on the 16th (5 days ago), but unless they are having someone walk them to the dealership, I have a hard time believing that. The backordered part is not due in until August 19th!!!!!!!! I plan on picking up my injured Kitty tomorrow and taking her back once ALL of the parts are in. What a friggin hassle this has been. |

I can't say enough about Hunt Club Ford Lincoln here in our (my and at least one other's) Nation's Capital. This is my fourth car from them and they knew I really, really wanted a Cougar and they went to great lengths to give me what I wanted at a price I could afford. Even after all the haggling (which was mostly me repeatedly saying no! After all they know I like the chase as much as the catch)they had the exact Cat I asked for on Saturday, ready and waiting for me Tuesday afternoon. Not an easy feat since I insisted on no cruise control which meant a dealer search. With my previous car, a 98 Escort ZX2, the engine blew after 30K km. New (straight from the factory) engine, no questions, no hassle, no run around, no charge. So for any current or future Cougar owners in Ottawa, ON, Canada, I highly recommend Hunt Club. |

| I'd like to reiterate that Cherner L/M in Annandale, VA is a pretty good dealership. They took care of me most recently to replace the alternator in my Cat because of a short in it. The only thing I wish they'd do is wash it every time they have it, because they tend to leave the occaissional grease print on the paint, or if they have to play with the wheels any, they disrupt the fine coat of brake dust on the wheels which, as we all know, looks worse than the coat of brake dust by itself. | |

I've gotten reliable service at Stanford L/M. They even wash the car sometimes. I am actually going there tomorrow to get 20K service--tires rotated, oil and filter, pollen filter changed. Also gonna try to get them to do the squealing brakes a la the TSB. Anyone have any suggestions as to anything else I should have them look at for? Or what to do to make them do the squealing brake TSB change? Thanks. |
