by law... Odometer must show up AT ALL TIMES... even with key removed.

Hope that helps you...

Are you sure about that requirement, because in my 2007 Mazda6 the odometer does not show up when the car is off. It comes on only when the key is in and turned and I am pretty sure that it has alway operated that way. (I just went out and confirmed this, no OD until key was turned part way and accessories also came on)

Interesting, perhaps the law has been changed? At one time, the law was very specific about being able to determine the mileage on a vehicle without having key available.

I wonder if the law now allows for electrical-connection to the ODBII connector to get OD readings? The advent of onboard computers has really changed the automotive industry.

expensive repair by muratarum

I have 2007 Wolfsburg with 17k. Yesterday the car overheated and battery light was on. I drove to the service immediately. Today they call me and tell that someome had changed alternator before and it is not any more under warranty and since this problem was caused by that I have to pay for alternator, belt, and propably water pump which costs more than 700. My question is: I bought the car a month ago and I went to the service with the car and they told me that the car is under warranty. Now this happens. Does it help if I call the service center of Volkswagen? Does the dealer who sold me this car have any responsibility? They sold me the car saying that it is under warranty but now it does not mean anything.
I am asking these questions because I just moved here and do not know how the system works here...

I would definitely take it back to the dealer who told you the car is under warranty. They may be honest and uphold the warranty. They may not. In that case, you have a legal case, but if it is your word against theirs it will be difficult if not impossible to win.

Does the car have a VW Certified warranty? In that case there should be no question that it is under warranty. VW Certified cars are supposed to be checked thoroughly before delivery--that would have been the dealer's chance to notice the alternator had been replaced. If they did not notice it, it was their mistake and you shouldn't be harmed by their mistake.

Also, ask the dealer who serviced your car to prove that the alternator was not original-equipment spec and was installed improperly such that the alternator caused the problem. They are asserting that is the case, so they should be able to prove it. Another option is to call VW Customer Support. They may be interested in your being a happy VW owner in these times when it's hard to sell a car.

You could try ECS Tuning. They have a web site that you can shop from. They have everything VW and german cars. I have been buying my parts to fix my car from them and they are great. They even send follow up e-mails to see how everything is going with your car repair and to see if you need anything else. That to me is great customer service. We should have more people like them. They genuinely care. Hope this help and good luck with your car.

Yes there is a 40k service interval on the DSG.
iirc it cost about $200, maybe $300 for the 40k transmission service on 06 DSG new-beetle.

I was wondering if any one could tell me where my fuel pressure regulator is located on my 1987 VW jetta. It is a 1.8 liter non 16 valve.
