Thanks for the comments jiamin, fleetwoodsimca, and mjohnr99.
We're going with the Pathfinder instead of the 4Runner. I like both vehicles. I realize that they are totally different. I would still love to get a 4Runner. Maybe next time. Their heads are a little too big for me, so I say screw 'em.
Two things did, however, help confirm my decision.
1.) The Nissan dealership that I'm dealing with is just so great. No hassles, up front, never waste your time. (excellent service dept. too) I've yet to get a monthly payment based on X amount of dollars for the 4Runner. I guess they don't want to give that information over the phone, and I don't have the time nor patience to go there and sit around while they try to jack with me. They don't even have a 4Runner to look at, and it's been about a month now. That, to me, is just ridiculous. I understand the demand and all, but come on.
2.) My insurance payment would have been about $170.00 higher per year on the 4Runner. That's not that major, but it has influenced my decision.
I also consulted with CarsDirect to get invoice price. Thanks for the info. Go Nissan! I think they are every bit as good as Toyota.

If you have a dealer who's straight forward, has treated you right in the past and has a good service dept. that's half the battle.I went with my PF not because it was so much better than some of the other vehicles I considered but because of the great service we've had from our local Nissan dealer in the past.(My wife's Maxima is her second Nissan)

Lately I have been having some doubts on my decision. I think it is because I feel now that everything is over that I still liked the 4Runner and I'm angry at Toyota to have complicated my life by introducing a very questionnable model.
This has influenced my decision and if they decide to fix things a bit then I may have taken my decision on unproven grounds and too fast maybe.
But it is only my fault, I don't blame anyone but I wish Toyota would have given us a compelling new 4Runner upfront. None of that would have ever happened.
So I now realize that I'm a 4Runner guy that rides another vehicle because of a "soon to be resolved" estethics issue.
But I'm in a difficult position to complain. So far the Pathfinder has been great, not much to complain about aside from questionnable materials: floor mats, ceiling, poor radio reception, a rattle here and there and really really dreadful MPG (12.8 on my last tank......).
But hey, I'm like that. As soon as I have a choice between two things I have difficulty deciding and I have a tendancy to rethink my decisions for a while. Nobody's perfect
Forums like this make it easy to rethink our decisions. Too much information that comes too fast.
So when I look at or hear of the new 4Runner I have a tendancy to regret to some extent. But when I look at the high price, ugly flares and cladding and questionnable list of features of the Sr5 sport compared to my LE I tend draw the conclusion that I've done the right thing..... until I read a review of a satisfied new 4Runner owner (arrrrggggghhhhhh)
Now, if I could set my sight of something else and move on !!!! The boring time of year (November) does not help ... Too much time on my hands !!!!

Here's what you do...poke your eyes out then you can't read about or see anything new!...Better yet...Just grab a beer and sit in your LE and enjoy...You made a great choice...
#6039 of 8191 WT...did you get 4wd version of the '03 Pathfinder??
Nov 23, 2002 (10:32 am)
I was wondering does the '03 PF have stability control?? Does it have traction control system like 4Runner??
Nov 23, 2002 (1:50 pm)
Yeah you are right !!! That's what I should do. I'm an addict.... I just can't stay away from froums like these or review site. Do you think that the Betty Ford centre could help me with that ???

The 03 LE has both a stability control system and traction control.
I tried both on a worn gravel road and the the truck was very stable during an emergency stop, when slamming the gas and trying midly to loose control. I have yet tried the system in reall offroad condition.
I know you are not a big fan of the Pathfinder but I can tell you that it is a fine vehicle. Safe, powerful, corners great, loaded for a nice price. Okay it is a notch under the 4Runner in quality like I said before but not a huge notch. But the 4Runner is addictive I realize now, if you can get over the 4th gen questionable looks then you face a great vehicle I'm sure.
Did you go for a test drive ?????

My 4WD Pathfinder with newly mounted Cooper HT Adventurer tires absolutely does not require any winter tires. Here in Colorado, we get plenty of deep mountain snow to test all such hypotheses, and the bottom line is don't waste your money on "winter" or "snow" tires.
#6043 of 8191 Does anyone with 2002 LE
Nov 24, 2002 (1:42 am)
have rattling problems. I hear rattling from dash, cargo area, and steering column. Before I only had dash rattling but now rattling is here and there. It's annoying because it's getting louder everyday, so just wondering if someone has similar problem. Also, when I open the sunroof there's a loud vibrating noise(I have wind deflector)Is the vibration due to wind deflector or is it common.
